It is here again, I can't believe it's been 4 years. I was fortunate enough to have been there for 2 week after doing recovery work. I got in with a friend who is a Sandhog in NYC, a tunnel digger, so I kept my mouth shut and worked. All pics are mine. Most people, the ones who were working, had cameras. Nothing graphic, nobody wanted those pics, it was just to remember the immensity of it. Still hard to describe it all but I can say I don't get depressed after going through that, I really enjoy being a parent, life is good and I can say I have seen hell. I have sooo damn much respect for the FDNY. Just a wonderful, brave, cool under pressure group of individuals. NYC treated all of us working down there like gold. I mean the cops, the citizens, bars, stores, hotels, Rudy, everybody. Cheer NY.

I did manage to be there for 2 weeks, mainly because my buddy got me in and through pure luck a we signed up for and got the red access tags and a lot of guys didn't. Manhattan was where I was born, there was no way I wasn't going to try to help. In one sense I learned a bitter lesson: I thought I was going to save people during the rescue phase, which quickly turned into a recovovery phase a lot faster than they let the media know. In another sense I got to see the best of people in the worst of places. As you can see, I was "really" in there, not just on the fringes with a camera, and the FDNY guys and a few of the NYPD were amazing people, having lost their best friends and relatives and these guys would ask "how are you doing?" like I mattered or something.

It gets me weird every year at this time, not in a bad way per se, I just get very reflective on stuff since I was able to witness something horrid and historic. Thanks beatles btw :)
