WOW! JUST WOW!
As long as I've been around I had NEVER EVER read this thread. I just didn't think it necessary since I was here during all of these events. I was unable to post from work for quite a while based on a Wicked Witch of a boss and have since moved on to better places. Posting would not be such a problem but it's one of those "the moment has passed" things. I still read, but rarely post. VERY rarely. Killing time today, poking around and dropped into MI. Saw this thread and thought, "What the heck!" WOW! JUST WOW! Brought back so many memories! And then, to see my nic listed as one of the casualties among such legendary posters... Again, WOW! Cool that it's still here. Haven't read the whole thread yet, just the actual Codex. My how the board has changed. For the better? Some would say yes, some might disagree. But, of course, the only thing that's certain about the world is that all things will change. |

Am I the only one who imagines the narrator in "A Christmas Story" telling the story as I read it?

Appendix - The Ghandia Incident | ||
|
Back in Survivor 5 Thailand we had a contestant, Ghandia,
who began posting on EZ (I can't remember her moniker) and talking in the media about her experiences. Perhaps she was seeking publicity, perhaps she
worried about how she would come off as the show aired, perhaps she was simply naive as to the sophistication of spoiling, whatever, she said and posted way
too much. I remember one bit of info that got chewed on by the boards. She named the other contestants who smoked. Seemingly innocent perhaps to her, the
spoiler community knew that it likely meant that the people she named were all pre-merge boots. It turned out to be 100% accurate.
My name doesn't appear in giftd's codex which begins in Season 2; I was not a board warrior. I preferred to hang out in the dark corners of Ellipsiiis and Acme. But if I need to establish street cred:
SurvivorLover's April 2001 post, Board Wars (a little history), "Back during this time ( Survivor 1, my edit ) everyone on the boards were friendly with each other and there were not these big flame wars we see today. It was a peaceful little community and DogStalker had closed registration because there were way too many people and the server started to slow down. A lot of the people who were leaders at the time (7o62x39, Aja, Gatormeatisyummy, ferretkiss, MarryMeDirk, Island Heat, toddnick, xrunner, etc...) were very nice to each other and everyone got along. Everyone made lists of ideas and came up with good theories based on the facts we had at the time."
Ghandia lived in Denver and worked about 5 blocks away from me at a major law firm. Standard operating procedure at Ellipsiiis and Acme was for members, and there were several in Denver, who lived near a Survivor to poke around a little, within good taste. For example, if a Survivor's modest $200,000 home now had a for sale sign sitting in front or was having a new addition constructed, perhaps the Survivor did well. Also, if the Boards had gotten information about who might be a contestant early and they could be seen in person, the board would get very good info about standard things like observed weight loss. So, we knew that Ghandia was still working as a legal assistant and showed no sign of significant weight loss.
But things with Ghandia quickly deteriorated. I became known
to many of the Spoiling core including the EZ mods that CBS was furious with her and threatening legal action because of her posting and loose mouth. I had
reached an ethical line. Sourcing, in the broadest sense, has limits. Hacking a computer or causing or duping someone into breaching their confidentiality
agreement with CBS is illegal in the former case, unethical and/or in the later case possibly a malicious tort. Many others agreed including the EZ mods.
When the Ghandia posts disappeared from EZ, many
conspiracies arose. The truth is spoiling is supposed to be fun - not hurt people, even foolish people. The EZ mods acted ethically as did the private boards,
in my opinion.
