I never understood the Jerri hate. I bet that if I knew what really went on on Survivor, I would be shocked, but even in Australia(and Borneo) I recognized the
editing flourishes. There was no context behind why people hated her. Even as far as editing goes, she wasn't that bad. Jerri <3

Jerri was a ray of light in ASS. The very same thing that everyone hated Jerri for (being bossy and controlling) Rupert displayed times twenty thousand on both
of his seasons, and he was beloved o the people. Even when he was wrong, like when he brilliantly dug a whole in the sand on the BEACH at the foot of a HILL in
the RAINY SEASON and barked at poor Jerri for questioning that logic.

Anyway, the 'good people' thing is the reason I will always hate Tina as a winner and as a person. She was a conniving backstabbing two-faced multiple-deal having manipulator, which is great, but she and Colby were convinced their duplicitous ways were some form of holy justice. They used the game to pass personal judgments on the other players, and I have a problem with that. And her winning only further validated that ridiculous bullshit. Tina was an over the hill hag who felt threatened by women who distracted Colby from his Oedipus complex and the holy roller thing was just gross. But she was a good player. |

I like Kimmi. Alicia bugged the fuck out me, and I love Amber. Australia was a good season. <3

My mom suggested that Ruperts shelter was actually designed to kill the rest of his tribe. It makes sense in a sort of way, considering that he has no idea
how the game works and was violent on an occasion.

I do agree that Colby/Tina were annoying with there 'good people' versus "underserving/bad people" shit. I don't really have a problem
with them labeling Jerri as a "bad" person. I mean, it wasn't just them that disliked her, everyone aside from Amber did not like Jerri. It
can't just be that Jerri is actually nice to be around and they are all jelous or something. She was obviously not the nicest person to be around. What
really made me mad was when they voted off Amber! I remember Tina saying that she didn't deserve it becuase she didn't play the game well and was a
follower and under the radar. That is the episode where I decided I wasn't a fan of Tina (I don't hate her though). Why on earth did she feel Amebr
didn't "deserve" to be there? Becuase she was young, immature? Becuase she didn't put her strategy out there for everyone to see. And why
were Rodger and Elizabeth more deserving than her? Becuase they were Christians? It annoyed me that Tina was labeling people 'undeserving'. What gave
her the power to decide who is good or bad or deserving or undeserving. I guess because she was in power she had some say on who would go home, but that fact
that she used the game to pass personal judgements on people (which Katy already said <3) was really really annoying.

I agree. I think it just because Tina had near omnipotent power at that point, where she could basically relax and try to attempt to mimic the game as being a
functioning society. As far as Jerri goes, I can see why people find her annoying, but I can't understand why people hate her.

I don't hate them for disliking Jerri (although I don't understand it and I personally believe a few people got irritated with her and she became a
scape goat), but I hate how they look down their nose at her. In ASS, Colby said he played the game with the same integrity that he had in real life
Ethan and Tina suggested that Rudy and Rupert not align with Jenna and Jerri because "we all saw how they played the game last time" which made no sense considering Tina is the phony backstabber and Jenna and Jerri were 100% loyal to their allies in both games (to her detriment, even). It was just weird and revisionist and hypocritical, as "good people" so often are. |

Ok, maybe Jerri wasn't "bad" but there was something that made her annoying to most of the people out there. I liked Jerri and I don't think
she was that bad, but I do think she was probably abrasive and annoying. Someone is not nearly universally disliked for no reason (usually, anyway).

In defense of Tina, did she actually make judgments about other players or was it just a technique to further herself in the game? I think it was the latter
because she knew that would make her win. Same thing in ASS, though. She knew she was on the block with Ethan right away, so that's why she tried to
paint herself as an honest goddess compared to Jerri and Jenna. Colby on the other hand, just makes me

I can understand if she was judging people and labeling them undeserving and bad to further herself in the game, which she did and I feel like this has a lot to do with why she did so well in the game, but she didn't just use this as strategy. She honestly felt she was better then Jerri, Amber, Keith etc. This is evident in her confessionals (a place where judging these people serve no strategic purpose). |

I watched Australia (second season) many times since its premiere back 8 years ago in AXN. I liked the game. Colby, Jerri, Kimmi, Keith, Jeff and Elizabeth
were the people that I like. I saw it last time on a cable channel and it aired repeats many times.

At the risk of making this a politically-motivated flamefest, I think that Outback's endgame was largely influenced by Richard Hatch winning. What I am
euphemistically going to refer as "Red State" Survivor fans-turned-Outback contestants probably found Hatch, well, kind of gross on many levels. Not
saying it's homophobia, but I am saying that self-righteousness and wanting a "good" person to win was influencing a lot of the castmates, much
like the ethos that Coach seems to claim to believe in. I think that you ended up with a core group that wanted to see a "good" person (nevermind
that Tina and Colby were in actuality far more treacherous and deceptive than Hatch). Add to this that you had an endgame cast that consisted of several
Southern Christians and a woman who acts as the token conservative on a talk show... It all added up to a group that Tina (and, to be fair, her first mate
Colby) could manipulate right through no problem. The desire to not see a "bad" person such as Keith, Jeff, Jerri, or even Amber winning or making
the endgame overrode logic and maximizing one's own chance of winning.
Tina, on the other hand, ended up with an almost perfect storm endgame situation. She had: Colby willing to take her to the end and potentially lose. Keith willing to take her to the end and certainly lose. Elisabeth, had she won out immunity, I am guessing would have taken her to the end as well, with a 4-3 vote mostly based on tribal lines with a strong chance of Amber voting for Lis instead. Keith unwilling to team up with Amber who was the only one he had a chance of beating. She got them to all vote out Amber, which benefitted only Tina (Rodger and Lis needed her as a swing vote, Keith needed her as a final opponent that he had a chance in hell of beating, and she probably would have stuck with Colby to the end and lost to him 6-1...) Now, had Kucha gone in 6-4, if we make the assumption that Amber goes pre-merge, and the boot order is probably Colby, Keith, Jerri, Tina. (Perhaps Colby could win immunity to lengthen his stay, perhaps Keith or Jerri could get moved up on the target list out of orneriness.) The split seemed to be Jeff-Alicia-Nick vs. Mike-Rodger-Lis. Tina (or whomever else is the last Ogakor standing) would have an opportunity. On the one hand, I think she would more naturally gravitate towards Rodger, Lis, and Mike. On the other hand, Alicia and Jeff would be MUCH easier to talk into turning on the other Kucha tribemembers, and probably would have tried to arrange outgoing Ogakor sandbagging Mike with votes on their way out if they had to win a previous votes tiebreaker.... |

Tina was a genius to get to the end... that said, I do think she judged Jerri and Amber. The Amber judging I can kind of accept, because Amber was not really
playing and simply expected to be carried along, which would naturally piss off somebody like Tina who had worked her ass off to stay since day 1. The Jerri
judging was pure jealous-girliness.... Tina's social game was good enough though that she could convince everyone else to go along with it, whereas
Jerri's social game was bad enough that she simply expected the alliance to stick together until F5 though she should have been clued in by the Mitchell
vote that even if it did, she would come in fifth.
Tina was terrific at Survivor. That said, seeing her out first in All-Stars was very satisfying. There was a cuntiness about her that had to get its comuppance at some point, and to see Jerri deliver that comuppance was gold. All-Stars is the rare season where the pre-merge was vastly better than the post-merge. |
