THESE BITCH ASS @#%$ FREAKIN' SUCK!!!
I'll start with THE WRECKERS, yes THE WRECKERS, the name Michelle Branch and her lame-o back-up singer (Michelle? Hello? She's a BACK-UP singer for a reason - she freakin' sucks! You're way better as a solo act!)
"Stand Still, Look Pretty" - their debut album. Fitting, actually, since that's what they should both do. Coz the songs suck! It's just one generic country song after the other which blend into a generic blend of genericness and boredom. No heart, no soul, no hooks, nothing like Michelle's solo songs (which have stood the test of time and will be played in radio rotation for many years to come).
JEWEL!!! Ok, I'm not as pissed about her, but anyway. She released a great album, "0304," with some catchy pop songs (or so they seemed) but most of the songs still had brilliant writing and were amazingly written and the vocals were great, and the experimentation with all the different instruments (she even used bagpipes and stuff) was brilliant. 3 years later, she goes back to her pre-0304 days and jsut sings country-esque guitar-driven vocal songs which are once again, bland and boring. I mean, don't get me wrong, I like her earlier work, she made vocals-and-guitar soud catchy and released some great songs! But she couldn't replicate that, and the 2 or 3 stand-out songs on her new album are still mediocre in comparison to her earlier work of the same style.
Anyway, that got me thinking even more. Has anyone noticed that once-great singers, rock bands, whatever, are releasing new albums which SUCK because the songs SUCK and they're suddenly ultra-BORING to listen to? The new Tool album comes to mind. Post your thoughts on this, be rude to me, ignore me, do whatever, I just wanted to get this out.
/rant.
