Don't forget much much Editing plays a part in what is shown on TV; the whole science of Edgic, found elsewhere in these parts, dictates that a really over-the-top character such as Fairplay will never win the game. Thus, is Jon HAD won, his edit would have been softened up quite a bit and the Character of "Johnny Fairplay" would not have been nearly so memorable.
Yes, we'd still have seen the Grandma lie, but many of the other little moments showing him to be an a$$h0le would have been hidden, because the general public would be very upset for such a character to win Survivor, especially against "beloved" Rupert.
