Unfortunately for everyone saying she'll be fine, she won't. Her career will be as great as Tamyra's post Idol. A flop CD and then vanishing into nothingness. Sorry but no matter how good she may be, her voice is not something the youth will listen to and therefore, she won't be the least bit successful since marketability is centered around the youth.
Chris and Elliott made it big because they sing current songs and follow musical trends so you can't use them in comparison to justify Melinda's career. Sorry. |

hmmm I seem to remeber a many a people saying Elliott would not make it because of his style and the type of songs he chose on Idol....
Why has none of the haters brought up longevity at all. You think a fat ass beat boxer is going to have longevity? Jordin could because she is young and could learn. But the way her voice is now she would be lucky to squeez one 2 hit ballads. |

However much I do dislike Melinda though and I'm happy she didn't win, I was quite saddened by how she went since I don't think she saw it coming at all. I wanted her to go but I wish it had been more obvious to her. Oh well.

Melinda won't be successful with mainstream music a la Kelly or Daughtry or with Country music like Carrie or Kellie but I don't think she'll have to go back to singing back up. Ruben has put out 3 CDs doing his gospel/R&B type thing and Fantasia has put out 2 doing her screechy gospel/R&B thing. The people who like that type of music and enjoy their voices have continued to buy their CDs. They will have longevity because they will continue to release music in their own set genre and they won't need to worry about being the flavour of the month. Melinda will probably go down the same road. She probably won't ever have a hit high on the Billboard Hot 100 but she'll get to do what she loves and people who love what she does will get to enjoy it.
The rock music Daughtry does is popular now, do you think in 10 years that kind of stuff will still be all the rage, probably not, the same way the Backstreet Boys and Spice Girls are not still the biggest thing since sliced bread. |
