I think the numbers were down because the outcome was pretty obvious. If they had had Yau and Earl in the final two it would be harder to choose.

I hope they keep casting more diverse groups of people for Survivor because I got tired of seeing a sea of white people every year. Can't tell them bastards apart from each other, they all look alike.

I think the gist of the post is correct, but not for strictly racist reasons. People want to see contestants they somehow identify with or root for. Not much in this season to root for except for Yau. Does race play *some* factor in a contestant's likability? Probably.
But if there is anything racist in the show, it is when they decide whom to cast. Why have the one homeless guy be black? The fount of wisdom is the old asian guy (again)? The all-American hero types are white. (Tom. Terry. Gary Hogeboom.) Next time, how about a homeless white guy, a stupid Asian jock, and a black astronaut? Survivor's casting folks seem to cast according to stereotypes. |
