OU is appealing the sanction decisions by the NCAA, but the sanctions have brought morale down here.
That being said, I hope the Sooners go out there and kick ass this year.

I'm a big Oklahoma fan but I am not sure that they will do as well as expected this year. There's a lot of crap going on about the asswipe players who got paid for work that they didn't do by the car dealership.

OK - I've gone ahead and selected the games for Week 1. I'll repost this in about 4 weeks, but I'm posting it now to give folks an idea of the variety of games I'll put into the mix.
I'll select games not only from the six (five, if you no longer count the Big East) big conferences, but also from other conferences which deserve to get a bit more recognition, like C-USA, the WAC, and the Mtn. West conference. Once the season really gets going, I'll try to have at least one game from each of the major conferences in our weekly "Pick 'Em" list. I will always include major "Rivalry!!" games - always! Lastly, I won't ever include a game on the list unless both teams have at least an arguably legitimate shot at winning. Anyway, here's what Week 1's fare will be! WEEK 1 Thursday, Aug. 30 Utah @ Oregon State 10:00 pm Friday, Aug. 31 Washington @ Syracuse 8:00 pm Saturday, Sep. 1 Colorado State @ Colorado 12:00 pm Georgia Tech @ Notre Dame 3:30 pm Wake Forest @ Boston College 3:30 pm Arizona @ Brigham Young 5:30 pm Oklahoma State @ Georgia 6:45 pm Tennessee @ California 8:00 pm Monday, Sep. 3 Florida State @ Clemson 8:00 pm |

There's a rumor the Big Ten might try to add another team. It said Rutgers or Syracuse but it'd be nicer if it was actually a Mid West team like Notre Dame or at least Pittsburgh.

I'm really curious about how my boys at Bama will do this year under Saban. I've heard that he's a real SOB, but I think maybe they need some discipline to get their acts together.
We're going to watch them play Florida State in Jacksonville the last weekend in September. There will be a whole lot of rednecks in one place at one time! |

I loathe preseason rankings - they should wait until October to rank teams, AFTER everyone's had a chance to see all the teams actually play.
In glancing at the link you just posted, though... it's clear that some voters have a sense of humor!! "Others receiving votes (with 2006) records: Boston College (10-3) 150; Georgia Tech (9-5) 150; Miami (Fla.) (7-6) 91; Notre Dame (10-3) 90; South Carolina (8-5) 90; Wake Forest (11-3) 71; Missouri (8-5) 58; Oregon State (10-4) 52; Brigham Young (11-2) 47; Clemson (8-5) 30; Oregon (7-6) 30; South Florida (9-4) 26; Texas Tech (8-5) 20; Alabama (6-7) 16; Oklahoma State (7-6) 15; Southern Mississippi (9-5) 14; Iowa (6-7) 12; Kansas State (7-6) 8; Memphis (2-10) 5; Houston (10-4) 4; Arizona (6-6) 1; Duke (0-12) 1; Kentucky (8-5) 1; Washington State (6-6) 1." |

Quote: Huh? When game day rolls around, I guarandamntee you no one will be worrying about sanctions, not that they are now. People will be exchanging Boomers and Sooners across the field while waiting to see which quarterback takes the first snap and which takes the last. That's really the question mark for OU this season. Who will lead the offense? Early talk is that time will be split between two QBs with the third maybe holding PAT snaps. Not a big fan of the whole two quarterback thing, but if ever there was a time for it it's early this season for OU. The larger point is that no one really knows how good OU will be this year because of the quarterback situation. With the rest of the talent on the team and the schedule, OU could make it to the championship or they could finish 4th in the Big XII South. It's gonna be fun to watch unfold. A quick note on scheduling. Some of OU's recent non-conference opponents have been Oregon, Alabama, Washington and UCLA. Coming up are Miami (this season), Washington again, Florida State, Notre Dame (as mentioned), Tennessee, and LSU. Whether you're an OU fan or not, you have to love seeing classic non-conference matchups without having to wait for bowl season. I suppose somebody has to play Florida Atlantic, I'm just glad it won't happen at Owen Field. |

Wow. I got OkieLoki out of the woodwork to post in a thread. I'm honored!
I currently confine my passionate college football rooting to: Ohio State Ole Miss Mississippi State Southern Mississippi Purdue I love the Mississippi teams because that's where I grew up...though Lafayette was before that. My best friend is a big Buckeye fan and I kind of adopted that rooting interest from him. The university I attended (Loyola of Chicago) doesn't field a football team |

Quote: This is not a rumor, it's true. The Big-10 is launching it's own TV network in a couple of years, and they want the Big 10 title game to be on that network. The only way that will happen is to add another team, or even more than one. Personally, I'd like to see them make a run at Notre Dame again, but I doubt the Irish would want to give up it's TV contract. So assuming they say no, I think the next logical candidates are Missouri, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Rutgers, and Louisville. The current Big-10 rules say that any new teams must be in the same state or adjacent to a state that already has a Big-10 school, so they can't go after Texas or something like that. They will want a team in an untapped major market to help the TV network, as well as a team that can have an immediate rival. Missouri would open up the Kansas City and St. Louis markets, and they would have instant rivals with Illinois and Iowa. Pittsburgh, Syracuse, and Rutgers would open up major East Coast markets, and they would all have a rival in Penn State. Louisville is an up-and-coming area, and they could go against Ohio State and Indiana. |

Big 10 commish Jim Delaney was quoted in the Chicago Tribune a couple of days ago as saying the Big 10 is not actively pursuing expansion opportunities now or in the immediate future.
And the Big 10 Network isn't being launched soon...it is already on the air, available on Direct TV and certain cable systems...though NOT Comcast. |

Less than 4 weeks, now.
This isn't a college game... but here's a little teaser. Watch it and you'll find yourself laughing more and more at the unbelievability of it (as well as at the announcers) as it progresses. "The GREATEST comeback of all time!" |
