My only problem: I think McCoy had used that sleep like a baby line on one of his other ADAs.

Okay, what about past Friday's (Jan. 5) show? I loved it: the Anna Nicole Smith thing; Mariel Hemmingway and the fact that the physician (although guilty of malpractice) was essentially trying to provide for the uninsured. The mortician was out to profit, but I just could not hate that doc.
Two guys with ovarian cancer? Pretty inventive concepts IMO. |

I thought it was great. I watched it twice. Skeevy stuff about stealing body parts from the cadavres of people who never consented.

Good episode and I liked how instead of the 'ripped from the headlines' story covering the whole episode, it was just the springboard for a whole 'nother story involving stolen organs and lots of moral controversy.
That Dr. that was found not guilty and had his license taken away is now going to be in for lots and lots of lawsuits from all the families that the Prosecution contacted in order to get consent to dig up the bodies of their family member who went through the funeral home. |

LOS ANGELES - Prosecutor Jack McCoy is getting a promotion to New York district attorney on "Law & Order" but viewers could see less of Sam Waterston, the actor who plays him.
McCoy will take over from New York D.A. Arthur Branch, who was played by Fred Thompson. A former U.S. senator, Thompson asked to be released from the NBC drama as he weighs a bid for the Republican nomination for president. Waterston will begin his 14th season as McCoy, who was an executive assistant D.A., when the show returns in midseason. In past episodes, the district attorney's character generally has been seen in brief scenes offering counsel to his staff. "It's premature to comment on any changes to the D.A.'s role as well as any story lines affecting the transition from Branch to McCoy," Pam Golum, a spokeswoman for series creator Dick Wolf, said Thursday. In a statement Wednesday announcing his character's new job, Waterston called it a "logical next step" for McCoy. "On the other hand, politics isn't his game. There'll be fireworks. I'm looking forward to it," the actor said. "Law & Order" will begin its 18th season next year and is the second longest-running drama series ever, behind "Gunsmoke," which ran 20 seasons. I wonder if Branch will leave McCoy the keys to the liquor cabinet. |

It's about time they promoted McCoy after 14 years. But I thought he had to get elected?

It's too bad McCoy's promotion could mean less air time for Waterston, but it's a logical story progression. I started watching L&O because Sam took over for Michael Moriarity, though I must admit having seen Moriarity in old repeats, he was very very good. TNT hasn't shown any Moriarity L&Os in ages. Wish they would again.
I'll have to check out Gatsby. Didn't know Sam was in it, but I recommend you also check out Killing Fields. He's in that as well as is John Malkovich (before he really became the quirky John Malkovich). It's a powerful movie, a true story that will leave you sobbing. But worth watching. Wonder if McCoy is being "promoted" so they can pay Waterston less money for less appearances. I hear the CI crowd is grousing because they didn't get any raise this year, even though 5% is usually standard. Wolf is trying to cut costs, apparently. |

I had an opportunity to watch Waterston in a live stage production of Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey into Night" several years ago.
The play also starred his son James Waterston, along with Elizabeth Franz and John Slattery. It's almost 4 hours in length, and the drink prices were really expensive, but the play was excellent. |

I'm afeerd it won't start up until after the Super Bowl. I went scouting NBC.com for it and noted it was slated for Sunday nights. But right now
that's Sunday night football's time. So I'm just a-waitin' and a-hopin. I'll be there whenever new shows start. I also think Jesse L
Martin's new partner (brain-farting on the name, but I believe he was Rachel's Griffin's bipolar bro on SFU) will be a good addition. Can't
wait to see who the new ADA is to replace Waterston and how they'll use him as DA.

So Law & Order is returning to its original spot on Wednesday nights. Works for me. (although any night would have worked for me) It starts with TWO new
episodes, I believe January 2. whoo hoo!!! The new cast additions look good and I'll take Jack McCoy any time, cranky or not.
