Phyllis arrives at RS - surprised to see Nick there instead of at NE - did his time on the couch give him perspective? Like what? Nick wonders - YOU had time alone too - you tell ME.
At CL's, Kevin serves Lily - then serves up some attitude to Billy. 'Play nice', Lily sing songs from behind her laptop. God, he's a 'tool, 'Willy' adds. Lily's looking for a job - as she's not touching her modeling money. How do you feel about waitressing? Billy excuses himself to make a call to Jimmy - good - I'll send her right over. You're amazing, Lily's pleased to hear no one from 'their crowd' hangs out there.
Ester's brought yet another stuffed animal over to the Ashby's - and boasts that she has plans with the sweet, funny Roger - who treats her like a Queen. As she freshens up, Chloe insists Cane go to lunch with Mom and 'Mr Wonderful' - things are moving too fast - Mom's naive - remember who my father was? Cane agrees - he WAS looking too closely at the antiques. He then asks Ester if he can tag along - to clear the air about Jill firing Roger.
At Jimmy's, Roger assures Clint he has it covered. Clint's worried - if that woman really IS Kay, Ester's inheritance goes down the tubes - if it's Marge, she could identify him - send him back to jail. Roger's confident - he's got Ester wrapped around his finger. Get her on the hook or we do it MY way, Clint orders.
At the trailer, Kay awaits a call from her lawyer - and doctor. 'Baldwin' calls - the Judge denied their request for a DNA test. Kay gripes that the ring's a dead end too. Murphy doubts she can get her old medical records. If I could just get into my home - I KNOW I'm Katherine Chancellor.
At CL's, Amber realizes she's misplaced her phone - and since she didn't leave it in Kevin's car, it must be at the pawnshop!
After Chloe arrives at RS to note it looks like Nick had a rough night, Phyllis comes along to comment that luckily Summer didn't notice he wasn't home. Nick won't be made out to be the bad guy while Phyllis plays the victim. I'M not taking responsibility for MY actions? he balks. Phyllis repeats her 'protecting my marriage' line - Sharon ... No - I won't do this with you again, she clams up - and the Newman's part ways to get some work done.
Billy arrives to ask for some copies of the Men's issue - to sign for charity. What's wrong with you? he questions 'that look'. Chloe confides the man her Mom's dating is making her 'twitchy'. Some women fall fast, Billy leans in to remind pointedly. And we know how that works out, Chloe replies equally pointedly.
At Jimmy's, Roger joins Ester and Cane (who brings up Jill firing him). I was admiring an antique - Jill became upset - perhaps she thinks I'm casing the joint. Cane can make a phone call - the Minneapolis office has an opening. Roger will pass - I have everything I want right here. Oh Roger, Ester nearly wets herself.
At CL's, Amber and Kevin fret over her lost phone. Amber can't go back there - Kevin will have to do it - let's go - I knew this was a bad idea from the beginning, he grumbles as they head out.
Back at Jimmy's, Roger's not up for a long distance relationship - maybe I'll retire - spend time with the wonderful Ester. Lily arrives and greets Cane. Lead aside, she explains she's there for an interview - arranged by Billy.
Loitering at RS, Billy chats with Chloe - and hears all about her Valentine's article. Flashback to them at a diner - eating heart shaped pancakes. Chloe's cynical about the commercialism of Valentine's Day - they're perfect together because they aren't in love.
Phyllis brings a fax over to Nick - no, she's not trying to make a point - it's an estimate for the copy machine - both think it too high - and both offer to take care of it.
Kay welcomes Amber and Kevin into the trailer - and thanks Kev for bailing her out and arranging the attorney. The kids have information about the ring (and are forced to admit they broke into the pawn shop to get it). You WHAT? Kay doesn't want them getting into trouble. She reads that the ring was sold to a gem dealer in Nelson Harkins for $100,000. It's easily worth a half mil, Kevin claims - don't worry - we'll get it back. It's the only way to prove I'm not a liar, Kay figures.
Jimmy turns out to be a rather mannish looking woman - looking for a job? she asks Lily (as Cane's invited to stay). Lily hands over her resume. No - she has no waitress experience - but her Dad owns Indigo. Billy's a sweetheart - so Lily gets the job - as soon as she serves up her 5 best drinks - no girlie drinks either - back in 10. Luckily, experienced bartender Cane offers to coach Lily.
Chloe tells Phyllis that she and Cane aren't celebrating Valentine's Day - she's excited about the baby and all - but it's not the life she expected to have. Chloe's surprised that Phyllis can relate - you have the perfect marriage, she chirps - a beautiful child - a great business - you and Nick can't keep your hands off each other. Why, it makes Chloe's jealous. That's how you see us? Phyllis is genuinely surprised (as she eyes Nick listening to Billy claim he's too selfish to have kids). It's a huge responsibility, Nick agrees - but having a family is the best thing that ever happened to him. As Chloe and Billy eye one another, the Newman's share an awkward stare too.
Kay will never be able to repay Amber for her kindness - and all that money to Kevin. He admits the money was hers - not his - not like he stole it - she left $75,000 at CL's. What was I doing with all that money? Kay wonders - as Amber scolds him. Kevin bought a scooter and fixed the plumbing - he'll pay it all back. Kay tells him to forget about it - and thanks him for his honesty. And Amber's sorry she accused him of killing Mrs C. Apology not accepted. Kay won't tolerate this arguing - now what the hell is Kevin staring at? Now THAT's Mrs C! No more arguing - Kay insists - we're all in this together.
My Funny Valentine, Roger coos - who thought he'd fall in love after all these years - Yes, he's in love - head over heels, he adds with a kiss that melts Ester.
With Cane's help, Lily concocts drinks for him to sample. Perfect. She'll have to study the bartender's guide like she does her school books - before long she'll be an accomplished 'mixtress'. Now for a martini.
Back at CL's, Chloe removes shirts from a rack and holds them up to Billy - try this - now this one - ugghh - no, no, no - how about this? Perfect. Ohh - little booger's doing somersaults. Billy suddenly has to go - to meet Lily. Don't forget these, Chloe gives him the RS copies. Both look troubled as Billy gets on the elevator.
Now alone at the trailer, Murphy comments that Kay's friends sure are characters - it's obvious they adore you. Kay's blessed to have them in her corner. Meanwhile, at CL's, Amber thinks it worthwhile breaking into the pawn shop. As she scurries off to check the lost and found for her cell phone, Gill arrives - on official business - does the name Pogue's Pawn Shop ring a bell with Kevin? Seems the owner jotted down his license plate number last night. Behind the kitchen door, a worried Amber peeks through the window.
On bended knee, and presenting a boxed ring, Roger asks Ester to marry him. Whoa, whoa - Cane races over - you've known each other for 5 minutes. Also arriving to protest, Billy points out that marriage is a humongous step. Ester has to listen to her heart - and it says Yes! As Lily also stands by, Billy and Cane shake their heads.
Nick and Phyllis continue to eye one another until Nick saunters over to ask what she thinks of Chloe's Valentine's Day piece. Both hate what's happening to them - and don't want to fight. Both said things they regret - but there's truth in those words. Phyllis is still irked that Nick refuses to see Sharon as a threat to their marriage. And you make things worse by acting out, Nick counters. Where do we go from here? Phyllis wonders. Nick doesn't know - but sleeping on the couch won't solve anything - he needs to be home with her and his little girl. Phyllis thinks that a good first step - yep - let's get out of here. I missed you, both admit.
As Lily sits at the bar with Billy', Jimmy comes along to say she tasted Lily's drinks - no - she doesn't get the job - but the 'cutie' who was helping her does if he wants. Lily sighs - that's what I get for trying to pull a fast one - and relying on Cane. As she goes to the ladies room, Billy sends Chloe a message (alerting her to Ester's engagement).
Cane arrives home - I don't know how to tell you this... I tried to stop it. YOU did? Chloe's surprised. Cane knows something's not right (about Roger wanting to get married so fast). Back at the bar, Ester and Roger kiss happily and head out - walking right past Clint hiding behind a newspaper - so far so good - as long as Kay, or Marge stays out of the way everything will be JUST fine, he mutters.
Kay leaves a message for Mike - the ring's not a dead end after all - call me. There's still hope for a DNA test.
Kevin suggests the pawn shop owner wrote down the wrong number - I was with Amber last night. The same Amber who wanted Kevin arrested? And who's cell phone was found inside the shop? You found me phone? I've been looking for it everywhere - I left it a few days ago - may I have it back? Amber babbles. It's at the station - held as evidence. A crime's been committed - and why are you two so chummy now? Amber's a 'basket case' is the consensus. Gill tells them to go ahead and play games - he'll be collecting evidence - next time they talk it'll be downtown.
Next: You know my folks will never go for it, Noah tells Eden (on the CL's patio). Watch and learn, she smiles ... Brad's at NE - we have a binding agreement protecting me from prosecution. My daughter protected you, I won't, Vic growls back (as Vikki stays silent) ... Kay walks into Mike's looking every inch the Duchess. Mrs Chancellor, stammers a surprised man - I thought you ... Were 6 feet under? she finishes.
