I'd suggest not until the Monday morning following a Wednesday release of a new issue.
Uh, don't forget to Read the Sticky -- show title, thread title, URL... Love the Willow-speak in the title. |

posted in the stickied thread and updated the original post here to reflect your (very reasonable) spoiler rule. Thanks!
Since we're still in the no-spoiler-timeframe for the first issue, I'll just start off the discussion by asking: Without mentioning anything IN the comic book, what did you think of the first issue? As good as the show? I dont normally read comics so it will take some getting used to for me but I thought the first issue was great. It felt a bit short to me but my husband assured me that this is just how comics are. I liked that they briefly mentioned whats been going on with some of the characters and also got into what is happening on the demon front these days. |

I'd love to hear the reviews about it and analysis as to whether it is true to the spirit of the characters, etc.
A comic book shop is well out of the way for me to find but I will find one if the issues are worth it. If it's a piece of crap, I'd love to hear that too--sorry that you got hosed but thanks for saving me a trip in advance. |

The dialog is definitely buffy-speak which is very true to the characters - I pretty much had no problem picturing the tv-versions of the characters saying everything. There were also a couple references to buffy's past as told in the actual show.

For those that can't find the first issue, what's going on is that the printer ran out. It's preparing a second printing and an improved one will be on sale March 28.
This from TVTattle: www.scifi.com/scifiwire I managed to find a copy, which says the 2nd issue is to be released Apr. 4. Meanwhile, does anybody know how many total issues there will be? |

It'll be an ongoing series. So it just keep going.

Hmmm...
So, the first small-ish print is totally sold out and will have a (slightly) different cover on upon reprint? Crap. I was going to read this tonight. Now I'm thinking I should keep it sealed in its little mylar pouch and wait for the second print to read it. Anyone know much about comics? Will this first printing become collectable? |

For the people having trouble getting a copy. I'm not normally a comic book shopper but I do know the comic place at the mall I go to has a sort of locker-system for their regular customers. You get to make a list of the stuff you want them to hold for you when it comes in. Then when the new issue is out, they throw one in a box for you so its there when you come in to buy it. I dont know how popular a system this is but if you're planning on buying every issue of Buffy, it might not hurt to ask your local comic place if they'll do it for you.

Got one.
About the different cover, apparently the first edition, first run also ran an alternate cover--just to nab the compulsive collectors. I say that as a recovering compulsive collector. I was tempted but I have boxes of old comics I have to get around to getting rid of so I only bought a reading copy. The shop still had a bunch. I read it. My comments are: Bwahahahahahahahaha and Rats. It definitely has Buffy-speak and that same great sense of humor that the series had. The things I didn't like about it: too short, the ads in the already too short thing and most importantly: I'm obviously missing a lot of story between the end of the series and the beginning of this. This story does not begin at the end of season 7. Without going into spoilers: how did they go from hole in the ground homeless people with the shirts on their backs to what they seem to have instantly in the comics? And where can I get the Tales of the Vampires and the other Buffy related stories that were mentioned in text parts of the comic? I can totally get back into Buffyness. I look forward to more issues but I want them thicker: more pages, more storyline. |

Quote: Asss Masster, I own a comic book store. The quoted print run for the first printing of the 1st issue (somewhere around 100,000 copies) is actually quite large, for a comic book these days. Most months, only about 5-10 titles sell more than 100K, and they are almost exclusively superhero titles published by Marvel and DC. A recent example of one that wasn't a superhero title was STEPHEN KING'S DARK TOWER #1, which sold about 175,000 copies the month before. 100K is also about 4X what the previous BUFFY comic series was selling, before it got cancelled. And, given the fact that the show has been off the air for a few years now, it was a sign of Joss' strength and popularity as a comic book writer nowadays that gave retailers the confidence to order that many. Quote: Most likely? No. It may temporarily shoot up in price for a while, until the market settles, but it probably won't maintain a high value. If I were you, I'd open it and read it. As carefully as possible, of course, but comics are meant to be read. |

Quote: We're past the first monday after the new issue so people can talk openly about the issue now. I got the impression from this first issue that they found more slayers and have begun training and going on missions. I didnt think it was supposed to pick up the day after Sunnydale collapsed - it was my impression that we would be caught up on what happened between then and the present as the story progressed. |

From my understanding it is about a year and a half after the last episode.
I liked it, although I am a very fast reader, so I just shot through it and was kind of... eh But then I realized that I needed to read it and kind of see it as it would have been on screen. Then it was much better. I can't wait to see what goes on with Amy, and when are we getting Giles & Willow???? |

I wasn't sure if it was a go back and fill in the details sort of thing. I know I've been out of the Buffy information loop for a long time so I just thought I missed some other publications filling everything in.
I hate Dawn. I was so happy to see her the way she was in this issue. That was funny. I especially applaud that her whining, her always whining, was brought up. Yes she did whine. It's one reason I thought she was annoying as well as useless as a character. I am very happy to see her come to some grief and have Buffy comment on her whining nature. My biggest complaint is that it's just too short and I have to wait a month between installments. Add me to those who can't wait to encounter Willow and Giles. It took me awhile before it dawned on me that "Mr. Harris" was Xander. True to the episodic TV series banter. If they continue with that then I will make it a point to get the issues that continue the series. While I did pick up season 6 at Circuit City's $20 sale some weeks back I still haven't convinced myself I actually need to get season 7 (yet). |

I'm not a comic book reader but Im a giant Buffy fan. I walked into a comic book shop not even knowing where to look, and I asked the guy behind the desk about it.
"I'm looking for the new Buffy comic" "I'm looking for the girl on the cover of the Buffy comic, but we all can't get what we want. Just kidding, keep walking and I'll tell you when to stop" Um ok. He was just like the comic book guy on the Simpsons. ANYWAY, the comic was good but it was SO short. And we only get 1 per month? argh. I need more Buffy. I thought once a week was long. It took me like 2 minutes to read through everything. |

My comic book store was sold out of them too. I put my name on a list though and they said they'd get more copies on Tuesday. The next issue is due out April 4, though.
And you can order it from amazon if you don't have a comic book store near you. |

Here's a great article about the reprint, the plans for the rest of the series and how amazingly successful the first issue has been.
