Re: Great Final Episode!!! | ||

I missed the entire season and the first 10 minutes of the finale, so don't shoot me, but... am I right in thinking the anniversary present had something to do with Larry fooling around on Cheryl? Otherwise, I'm awfully confused.

Yes, her 10th anniversary present for him was to have sex with another woman. She made the promise when they first got married.

Kuta, Don't worry! This episode of CYE won't stop me from seeing The Producers, I was just joking. There's no way I would have seen it anyway
Believe me, I know I'm in the minority when it comes to my opinion of Mel Brooks. I might think that the Emperor has no clothes, but members of my own household disagree As a matter of fact, Spaceballs is sitting in my DVD player right now! Back to CYE: I loved Jeff's line about the Bush mask |

Oh, I think Larry was trying to collect on the anniversary gift; but just always ruined it by "being Larry".
Of course, he had no control over the earthquake. |

Just finished watching the Tivo of last night's episode.
I must once again quote Jack Buck when he called Kirk Gibson's home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series...."I DON'T BELIEVE WHAT I JUST SAW." I'm sorry to all those who hated this or were disappointed by it, BUT....fast forward to the middle of September...."and the Emmy for Best Comedy goes to.....CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM." OMG...all I can say is, "Fuck You LARRY...you blindsided me, you four-eyed perverted fuck!!!!!!" I TOTALLY did NOT see that coming. The Producers within the The Producers. I can't stand it! To get Mel Brooks to play along, and then to do dialogue and actually mimic a scene with Anne. How much funnier can it get than THAT??????? When watching it, I literally ran out of the room when the curtain came up because I knew Larry was going to suck - especially with Stephen Colbert giving him the evil hex. And then...Larry saves the day by being Larry. And Mel's comments about how he KNEW that Larry would screw up. Now, unlike the real show, Mel's other producers were most likely not in on the gag - otherwise, Paul Mazursky wouldn't have been so adamant AGAINST Larry. And Larry, screwing up (no pun intended) a hummer from an EXPERT????? Passing up sex with the voluputous co-star because...she was a REPUBLICAN?????? OMG!!!!!! And, as pointed out, at the pinnacle of his night, when everyone is giving him a standing ovation, there's Larry...spotting Cheryl....and pointing to his watch that he has 1 hour left. Totally Larry. Great, great season. To me, it was a short season, but just with that one episode of Seinfeld (a Post-Larry David episode, mind you), Larry left us on a high note. |

^ I know that...what i was saying is that a 10 episode season seemed really short and that this season ended on a high note.

This show is great!
I finally caught the first season on DVD. It took a little warming up to, but now I'm glad to know there's at least a couple more seasons to look forward to. |

OK...now, I must confess, that I haven't seen the movie "The Producers" in awhile, and I best view it on account of The Producers musical hits Ft. Lauderdale in May (with none other than Alan Ruck, a/k/a Cameron Frye!), but a family member just chimed in that it's currently on Bravo as I type this and, as I suspected and/or remembered, the scene at the bar with Mel, Anne and the drunk was shot for shot, pose by pose, and, where applicable, line by line, the exact same as the movie. THAT is genius.

Larry is a genius | ||

True genius. I'd have to say that after watching that 1st season, the past season's haven't compared to the 1st. There have been some great episodes, Krayzee-Eyez, Cursing Restraunt, etc.
Honorary bump to the funniest show on TV. Period. |

I love this show, never ever do you not laugh out loud at it, and Larry David is just wonderful, all of them on it are, his blank stare at them just is priceless. I read it is entirely improvisation? Correct? I find it like the Office because it has so much in it, everything in it is funny, every look by every character, all the dialogue, every scene. And then the fact that the guy got off from a murder rap because he's sitting there in Dodger Stadium while Larry is walking by for Curb is just amazing, and so appropriate. It would have to be.

What happens is that Larry drafts an outline of what he wants to happen. According to an interview with Cheryl before, I think, Season 3, Larry doesn't hand the outline out in advance.
So, say, take the whole interview at the country club this year, where Larry and Cheryl are being interviewed by James Sikking and Ken Howard. I would imagine that the outline says for Larry and Cheryl to lie and discuss their right wing ties. To me, that back and forth was hilarious, from Larry and Cheryl meeting at a Reagan function to Larry parking the Hummer in the lot. Total improv, and it shows how well Larry and work together. For me, I would LOVE to know how many takes they had to use for the dinner scene at Larry's house with Colby and the Holocaust survivor friend of Larry's father. If you have it on tape, watch it again. Pay attention to when Colby starts yelling about how tough it was. Watch Paul Dooley and I think Cheryl's sister nodding as if to say "good point." OMG...just unbelievable! Also, in the finale, watch the final scene when Larry and Schwimmer come out for the curtain call. Watch the ugly look that Cady Huffman (playing herself as Ulla) gives Larry as he walks past. THAT is why this show is great. |

thanks for the tips, I'm gonna look for those for sure. I can't believe this has not won the Emmy's, all of them, it can only be because networks control the voting in blocks, and certainly at the next Golden Globes it wins best comedy, but it far surpasses anything on the networks, they aren't even worthy of kissing Larry's foot.

I can't believe I am just discovering this show. I've seen a few episodes on TV and just rented one of the DVDs. This is the funniest show on television! What a welcome break from all the reality crap that I also watch. Thank you, HBO! |

From yesterday's Page 6 of the New York Post:
www.nypost.com/seven/0922...agesix.htm OLD WHAT'S-HIS-NAME COMPLAINS September 22, 2004 -- IT's a safe bet that Larry David, star of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has canceled his subscription to Architectural Digest. The shelter mag profiled his Martha's Vineyard "cottage" in the June issue, and agreed not to identify David as the owner of the 14-acre oceanfront estate. Writer Nancy Collins referred to David as "one of television's most notorious professional curmudgeons," and characterized his spouse, liberal political activist Laurie David, as "the wife of one of Hollywood's funniest entertainment moguls." But AD's article still contained too many clues for Larry's liking. After the piece came out, the cantankerous co-creator of "Seinfeld" called AD editor-in-chief Paige Rense to complain. In the new October issue, Rense relates her conversation with "Mr. Television Personality," hereafter referred to as Mr. T.P.: AD: "Hello, how nice to hear from you." Mr. T.P.: "Well, I want to tell you how upset I am about the article you did." AD: "Why?" Mr. T.P.: "Everyone knows it was my house." AD: "Your name wasn't mentioned." Mr. T.P.: "In the article your writer said I was on a TV show and was funny." AD: "That could be a lot of people." Mr. T.P.: "No. No. That was me. Everyone knows it was me." AD: "Who is everyone?" Mr. T.P.: "My friends." AD: "If they're your friends, they've seen your house haven't they?' Mr. T.P.: "No, everyone else, too. Even people who haven't seen my house. I expect an apology." AD: "We are not going to apologize. We have no reason to apologize." Mr. T.P.: "You're not going to apologize?" AD: "No." Mr. T.P.: "Well, I'm going to call the owner of your magazine!" AD: "Please do." Bang! Mr. T.P. hangs up. Rense says the next day she asked the owner of the magazine and several other executives if "Mr. T.P." had called. Rense writes that he had, "but no one had heard of Mr. T.P. We mentioned the title of his show. No one had heard of that either. Oh well, the house is lovely." David told PAGE SIX: "I want to thank her for providing me a great episode for next season." An AD spokesman declined comment. |

I just got Season 1 & 2 on DVD (Christmas / Birthday) I haven't had time to watch all of them (seen all of season 2 already, and only some of season 1), but having just watched episode #102, I think it's one of my faves. Mary Steenburgen and Larry were great together, and I love that by the end of the episode, she didn't hate him. I was totally expecting a big misunderstanding that would have left Mary and Ted hating Larry forever.
