I want to say that I read an interview where someone stated that Baltar was certainly not killed in the nuclear blast, but I may be mistaken.
The difference, to me, is that Starbuck was clearly dead - we saw her body, we saw her fly her raptor into a nova. We saw her form poof into thin air.
Baltar being a cylon/apparition/angel/etc would take away what made him, what I always felt, the most HUMAN of all the characters. He tried to believe that he was something else - a cylon, what have you, in order to alleviate his personal guilt, but that simply was not possible. He was human, with all our faults, failings, and guilt.
All that, and the Baltar/Six that the corporeal versions of each saw were clearly different entities - more self assured, omnipotent, etc. Those characters were the ones seen at the end in Times Square - they were even wearing the same clothes.

Jitensha, you really are an idiot if you think this was a good ending. It was sappier than the final episode of MASH. It was preachy (cities are bad, robots
are evil), and hokey as hell (angels, Hera was african eve, it all happened before, whatever). TERRIBLE!
The first hour was ok, but after they killed off all the evil characters (Cavil, Boomer, Tory), the second hour was boring garbage. I felt like Sam Anders at the end. Comatose, glassy-eyed and ready to drive into the sun. And forget about Daniel and other plot holes, how about some consistency with the characters? RDM says it's all about the characters. Oh really? Is that why Anders is portrayed in his final flashback as a geeky scientist? He's the jock! He was the jock for the entire show. He was the jock in his previous flashbacks. But now we see him as the guy who loves the maths and the physics? Wtf? And Cavil? The smartest, trickiest, most cunning, most determined to survive suddenly decides to off himself because he can't think of anything better to do? Terrible! The vomit scene was the best part of it because it summed up the final show quite nicely: The progenitors of the human race were a bunch of drunken, whoring, wife-killing trailer trash who slobber on themselves while star-gazing. The End. |

I thought it was perfectly clear that the Six and Baltar we saw at the very end were angels but the two see saw go off to plan crops were actuals. I have a
feeling we will hear the same from Ron Moore.

Obviously anyone who thinks the Times Square Six/Baltar are Cylons are retarded.
However, I've always been bothered by the Baltar nuclear explosion thing as well. As Pirahnanana says, that explosion was much more than a warm-wind aftershock. It completely decimated the house, and there's no way that a skinjob (who, in effect, have the identical physiology of humans) could protect a human body from the impact, even assuming there was no radiation involved. Thus, I don't think it's outrageous to speculate that the regular Six/Baltar duo were angels a la Starbuck. But I think if this were the intent, it would have been made clear by Moore. (just occurred to me that it might also explain why Six couldn't have a child ... because angels and Cylons can't breed  )

re: Baltar being an angel all along. Why would the Head Six & Baltar need to reassure other angels that everything will be fine and that their lives would

The fraililty or toughness of the cylons always varied depending on the needs to the scene. Sometimes they could withstand nearly anything, sometimes
something relatively small could kill them.
During the finally, they seems to be killing the centurian with some rather ordinary guns - remember Baltar's gun putting holes in the one? But, they already established in another episode that only a particular type of round could down a centurian and that they were in extrememly short supply. To me, this kind of stuff you just need to give a pass. The Baltar we watched for the entire series was clearly supposed to be human. Could a human have survived the blast we saw in the miniseries? Who knows, probably not. But it wasn't their intention to have us think him dead, their intention was to have a "really cool scene." On the other hand, if at any time during the series if making Baltar a cylon would have suited the whim of Ron Moore or another that had Moore's ear - he would have been a cylon - or an angel - or anything else that Moore thought was "really cool" that day. ___________________________________ Agreence about Babylon 5 being one of the best series ever written in science fiction - except for the last season. Another that I think did extrondinary well is Stargate which lasted WAY longer than BSG with much less crap. For me, in many ways BSG was much more like Star Trek TNG, than SG or B5 because it was constantly filled with stuff that just appealed to the writers on a given day rather than pushing the plot forward. Yet, due to its concept (a bunch of refugees searching for Earth) it really needed careful continuity - which it never had. Now during the last season, it was clear, at least to me, that the writers spent a lot of effort trying to tie up all the loose ends to make it LOOK as if it wasn't scattershot all along. Still, in the end, they ended up on Earth - OUR Earth - and that's all I asked for the moment I heard someone was making a remake - so I'm satisfied. I wish they'd made a better effort out of the last few seasons and not done "dark" for dark's sake - but I'm satisfied. ETA - and the girl in me just wanted to see Kara and Lee live happily ever after - or at least share one more kiss....

In any case, he knows full well that Boomer used his feelings for her to put her in a position where she could kidnap Hera from Athena (and put him in the brig). It's extremely plausible to think he wouldn't find a reason to disagree with the way that situation ended. |

Tory's death and Chief's hands was actually one of the many pleasant surprises in the finale. I totally expected him to be stopped from strangling her
to death. I get why Chief did it. It was the final straw for his character. It seems like all the women in his life had lied to him. Tory, unfortunately
for her, was the nearest representation of his eternal misjudgement of women.
I still want to know why the 13 tribes left Kobul. Why the cylon tribe on Earth was obliterated? Who warned the the final five of the attack on Earth? These are questions I'm convinced won't be answered by Caprica or the Cylon movie the Plan. |
