I agree about the Michael/Toby thing going too far. It's gone from funny to sad and uncomfortable. Overall last night's episode was pretty weak. I don't think I lol'ed once. I always like these better on second viewing though, so we'll see.
I agree. It's kind of like the Angela, Dwight, Andy love triangle that went from (very) mildly amusing to just plain creepy now. The humor from this show in its prime came from the fact that we can all identify with the characters from our own experiences in offices and whatnot. As the characters (particularly Michael) have become increasingly far-fetched, it's just not that easy to identify with them. Having a mysterious dislike for another employee can be kind of funny; hating that person so badly you'd attempt a (ridiculously zany!) attempt to have that person arrested for drug possession is something else.
Last night was another "sit-com-plothole" night for The Office. We'll never again hear about the illegal attempted framing of an employee, just like we never again heard about the pizza delivery guy that was held hostage for several hours. In the real world, the cops would have a few questions about why someone had made a false report of a crime, and Toby might actually follow up with a complaint to corporate about the incident.
I'm really looking forward to the Jeff Gordon episode though!
