US OFFICE | ||

Steve Carell is good, but Ricky Gervais adds so much more to that character that the US version will never top the original.

Yes, let's rehash all the old thread topics. First off, Ricky Gervais is the Executive Producer of this version so trashing this is trashing him. You never heard people saying Sandford and Son wasn't as good as
Steptoe and Son or All in the Family not as good as the british version. Why not just appreciate this on it's own. This show makes me laugh out loud just as much as Arrested Development does. Last point is that this show seems to be struggling as much as AD to find an audience, which leads me to believe that Americans have lousy taste. |

Despite the fact that Gervais is credited as an 'executive producer' for the show, he has stated several times that he had zero input into the show and didn't even see the episodes until after they aired.
Quote: The Office was a bonafide hit around the world (and in North America) before a remake was made, so naturally there will be more comparisons (as the original sanford and sun and all in the family weren't winning golden globe awards). And I'm sure the lack of comparisons back then can also be credited to a lack of Internet back then. And the US Office is a good show, better than most of the crap on television. Doesn't change the fact that comparing S1 of US to UK is a joke. Gervais' character has way more depth (not just in his acting but in the background that was written for him, rock star aspirations and the like) and it completely blows away the US version as a result. |

Quote: I've never seen the UK one and I have no desire to. I wish people would just look at them as separate shows though, this is a great program, especially compared to the likes of Joey or Will and Grace. I know this is a dumb question but it's just out of personal curiosity. This show isn't really filmed on location right? From the few outdoor shots I've seen it reminds me of Scranton(I went to college in that POS city for a semester), but I think a lot of places look dreary and generic like that. |

I admit the Us version is better than most stuff on TV today, but to me, it cant just compare to the UK version. It is such a good version to me.

Got the DVD today. Can't wait for the commentaries. They look hilarious. As do the deleted scenes.

Having an S1 marathon. Watching "The Alliance" right now. Probably my fave.

Rented this through NETFLIX. Loved it. Haven't seen the UK version, but am looking forward to this one. Funny hearing people compare a UK series to a US series which only has 6 episodes, 1 of which was a pilot, but whatevah.

Well the UK version is only 20 episodes plus a 2 part reunion.

I don't even think the US version is good on it's own. The characters are bland and flat. The UK version is an instant classic and will be held up as genius for decades to come. The US version may show up on TV Land in the future.

I think the UK version was only like 12, plus Xmas
The UK seasons are a LOT shorter than here |

Anyone catch this tonight? It was one of the best episodes yet.
The characters became more developed and you actually felt pity for Michael at one point. |

It was FANTASTIC. Loving the Pam/Jim chemistry more and more. They were so adorable together. I loved her drunkeness :) I also loved how they all came together to give Michael a moral boost.
Great ep. |

That was....different.
That was the first episode where they truly strayed from the original, especially in terms of format. It seems they've done that since they assume it'll keep the show fresh as they have a full season to fill this time. That said, it had its moments, it's still a good show, but I thought it was weaker than most of the episodes in Season 1. By expanding the number of people who have confessionals I think it takes the focus off of Carrell, who the joke is supposed to be on. On one hand, it's a good move, because Michael Scott has never had as much depth as David Brent, but on the other hand, the show just doesn't feel as effective to me when everybody's playing to the cameras and everyone's a subject of the documentary. |

See, I thought this was a weaker episode than anything from Season 1. There just weren't that many laugh-out-loud moments.

I'll admit this ep and the basketball one are my favorites. It's not the UK version, but and I'm ok with that. it's definitely growing on me.

I loved Pam's nodding during Jim's talk to the camera just before she fell. Priceless.
