Hey everyone...new Office fanatic, here!
First of all, I couldn't stand the first season. I thought Diversity Day was funny, but other then that...Basketball was okay and The Alliance was alright...I was just not a big fan... Then came second season. How awesome! The Christmas Party, Booze Cruise, Dwight's Speech, and of course the epic Casino Night! I loved every minute of the second season and was hooked from that point on... Now that I've watched all of the fourth season, I sort of want to catch up on the group concensus here. 1.) Do you think that the fourth season, in general, dragged due to Jim and Pam being together? 2.) Who is your favorite 'second tier' character? I really wish that Meredith would get more talking heads!!! 3.) Does anyone find Jan as annoying as I do? I just don't like her character at all... 4.) Is Ryan going to be gone...for good? And finally... 5.) Is the American version living up to its British predecessor? Thank you all...this is a huge thread, and I just can't dig through all of it... |

My best TWSS--in my TV production class one day, we were eating lunch and one of the guys decided to impress us by stuffing his mouth with grapes. "Dude,
I can fit nine in my mouth at once!" It was even better because of his voice was muffled and there was drool at the corners of his mouth.
I've always wanted to do it in the middle of reading a poem or play aloud but never had the right opportunity/guts. 1.) Do you think that the fourth season, in general, dragged due to Jim and Pam being together? I thought the fourth season was definitely the weakest so far, but I don't think Jam had anything to do with it. The strike killed a lot of momentum and the hour-longs that started the season were really hit and miss. 2.) Who is your favorite 'second tier' character? I really wish that Meredith would get more talking heads!!! Creed 3.) Does anyone find Jan as annoying as I do? I just don't like her character at all... Jan is ok in small doses; that was another point of contention of season 4 for me, she got more airtime than ever before and she bothers me more than she makes the show amusing IMHO. The pregnancy thing has the potential to be interesting but I hope she doesn't have as much focus in the future as she did this last season. 4.) Is Ryan going to be gone...for good? 5.) Is the American version living up to its British predecessor? I'll go ahead and be controversial and say that as brilliant as the British version is (episode 4 is one of the funniest half-hours in television history and I prefer it to even my favorite US episode, "Diversity Day"), I actually prefer the American version just because I think the greater number of episodes allows you to get into the characters more (especially the background ones). They're both individually great shows; the comparison is pretty moot by this point IMHO. The British version deserves a lot of credit for going out on top, and I'm kind of afraid that that moment has long passed for the US version, but we'll see. Now if you want absolute perfection, seek out the Japanese version. ;) |

I agree with the others that it wasn't JAM, it was the strike and the overall pacing of the beginning of the season. History has shown, however, that bringing couples together that were originally scripted to be apart does not usually bode well. Moonlighting is the biggest flop I can think of right now, but there are others to use as examples. The Dwight/Angela "romance" with it's on again/off again nature reminds me of Sam/Diane on Cheers. That worked, and this seems to be working also - so far. Michael/Jan is beautiful for the train wreck that it is. 2.) Who is your favorite 'second tier' character? No one will agree, I'm sure, but Kelly is my fave! She is so psycho and back and forth. One of my personal LOL moments was last season when she was angry with Darryl and did the W, L, "slash across the throat" manuever. I had to rewind the DVR because I laughed so loud I missed the next couple of moments. However, I also think Creed is great and I enjoy Kevin. 3.) Does anyone find Jan as annoying as I do? Yes, Jan has gotten way too much screen time lately. But I suppose that was inevitable after putting her together with Michael. Now that they've broken up, perhaps she'll return to seconde tier status. 4.) Is Ryan going to be gone...for good? I don't know for certain, but my guess would be no. |
