I finally watched the first four episodes (thanks to the internet) and I agree that FNL is back to its season one glory. Great storytelling, great acting -
there's really nothing more to say about the wonderfulness this show. and I will watch every single episode again when NBC airs them early next year.
Mama Smash got to see her boy go to college after all - a very nice send off for Smash. It was also a nice touch to see Smash, Saracen, Riggins and Landry out on the football field one last time. |

so can someone please tell me what Landry says to Tyra when she comes over to his house to tell him how he's her best friend. I dled and have played it
back over and over and can't make out what he says. obviously its not good, since she leaves, but I really wanna know.

OK, dumb question: What exactly was Smash saying at the end of the episode? Was it ("where you at?" "who you at?") supposed to refer to
something that happened back in season one or something?
Loved the ep. It confirmed that the series is back on its game. I agree that it was a nice send-off for Smash, though if I'm not mistaken A&M broke several NCAA rules by allowing a non-enrolled student-athlete to try out for the team. And in the middle of the semester, too. Prediction: The McCoy kid will get to play more and more, but his immaturity (referred to often by Coach Taylor) will get the best of him. He'll throw a big interception at a crucial time or something, and Matt will reclaim his QB1 status. |

At the very end when Smash says 'Where you at?' I think he was talking to Tim Riggins because they were playing football and Matt threw the ball to
Samsh and he got right by Riggins so Smash was just like goofing on Tim kinda meaning 'I blew right past you!' Which is an absolutely perfect ending
to that storyline because remember in the first season Riggins and Smash hated each other so Smash found redemption in every person and every situation in his
life. I have cried the very most for the Smash storyline going back to the beginning. I guess because I am a mom I could understand so well Smash's mom
and her willingness to never give up on him and always support him and I could feel Smash's yearning to please his mom and want to take care of her..it was
a very touching storyline for me so I am very happy to see it come to a emotionally satisfying ending. That is why I love this show so much, you can
'feel' the show, you can 'feel' the relationships between the characters....oh hell, I could go on all day, so I'll just shut up now.
I'm never watching another Emmy show again if this show once again is locked out.

shoe66 wrote: This is kinda what I've been thinking, too. Matt is written as such a great guy on this show, it's hard to believe that he won't be given some kind of "break" at some point. I think that the new kid will choke and Matt will have to save the day. I was glad to see his mother come around and stick with it even when Matt and Grandma gave her a hard time. Same with his re-developing relationship with Julie. Matt needs some good things in his life. The scene with Coach and Smash was great. Coach is another one who needs to have a bone tossed to him once in a while. Although he does have a hot wife so there's that. Tami was lucky in that her high school sweetheart was smart, funny AND hot. Landry is the first two but.... Poor Landry. But it's realistic that Tyra wouldn't be satisfied with him long term. Like many women who have that kind of power over men, Tyra needs the thrill of the hunt. Landry is a sure thing. |

ok, so I caught up on the season... I'm really enjoying this season. Sad to see Smash go. His character really added to the show. I wish they would have cut Landry instead of Smash, Landry is just blah. Don't really care for him and the show took a down slide last season, when he was shown more. Hopefully this season will continue with its story lines. And it seems like they totally want the audience to forget about last season. |

I just finished marathoning the last three eps.
My squirminess about the opener is now assuaged -- WHAT an awesome season so far! Has there ever been a better non-denial denial than Coach's when confronted by Tammi over the "Jumbo... Tron." Frankly, I thought she was up the creek since day one. If the boosters donated big bucks for the new scoreboard, that's outside the Dillon school budget and independent of it. Give 'em the damn jumbotron. That's what they bought. Anyhow, 'sup with Landry suddenly going all googly mooglie about Tyra. He knew what she was prior to first boinkage and subsequent murder of rapist guy. I thought he was smart. Just wait for cowboy guy to get lost and enjoy the makeup sex. Lyla: would you respect a daddy who let Riggins boink you regularly under his own roof? Buddy: speaking of which, why does he hate Saracen so much? The little stuttering ffuk snagged a championship. What more does he have to prove? Perhaps Buddy was brought up before the West Coast offense emerged? Riggins: the new Twatwaffle. The next thing you know this asshole will be smoking clove cigarettes and reading Proust. Well not really, but imagine an angsty Texas football player and you get my drift. Is it possible to have an emo football player at Oklahoma? Coach: loved loved loved the Smash smash! Loved in particular the face to face with the A&M coach. Yay coach! Now if we could work on the private coach on your own field? New QB: the future of the series? Nice kid, but a tetch too Gossip Girl troubled. Smash: the kid has a future. What a way to go out. Where you at? Where you at? With that great smile! Mommy Smash: I lurve her so much. I very much lurve her so much. Saracen's mommy: seemed like a good egg, despite the issues & trangressions lying underneath. The Dillon universe has always seemed to look favorably on redemption. Lessee what happens. Saracen's grandmommy: I'm totally hooked on her decision. She wants nature to take its course before the dementia fully closes in. I wonder if she can stand her ground without annoying a certain grandson. On this, the largest of TV canvasses since The Wire in its heyday, who would've foretold that her story would become the most poignant? Saracen: the moral center of the show. And it's cracking. I personally applaud Julie back in his life. I'm going to be really intrigued if they bring daddy Saracen back into the mix. This is the most interesting of all the plotlines going on right now. (BTW: agreeance with sofa: the ball broke the plane of the goal line from my angle, he was mid-air, so no knee on the ground subjective calls -- the Panthers wuz robbed.) Awright who else have I not bitched about? Oh. How dare this particular character start yelling and crying -- ooh it's all about me -- just when Coach and Tammi are about to settle their differences about the Jumbotron? Yeah that's right. That bitch Baby Grace. |

heh.
the fact that p'ha, who i've always respected as an intelligent tv commentator (even if we don't always agree) can produce a wall of comments over a mere three episodes of a television show? that pretty much tells you everything you need to know about "friday night lights." best show on television. * that and the fact p'ha took my side on the sarasen crossing the plane controversy. that was nice. but in no way influenced my aforementioned comments. in no way. heh. * |

Piranhahaha - I agree with everything you wrote but this part in particular:
Saracen: the moral center of the show. And it's cracking. I personally applaud Julie back in his life.I love all the characters on this show and there's a lot of heart in it, but it's Saracen I root for the most. And his grandma. I think I like Julie and Matt even more this time around because he's more confident and assured - not the bumbling guy he was in early season 1. He won't be used by her again and she realized she took him (and his general awesomeness) for granted. I hope they get back together- she was an ass before but she learned her lesson.

Awww...I think people are being awfully rough on Tyra. If you don't feel it, you don't feel it. And I haven't seen that she's jerked him around this season. I think she tried really hard to get on the same page as Landry last season, and she finally admitted to herself and to him that it's just not there. Landry has every right to not want to settle for friendship and I don't blame him for not wanting her around if that's her goal, but I also can't blame Tyra for not wanting to be with him in that way. A girl needs a guy who gives her some butterflies, you know? But really, that's why this show is great. Not every teen romance involving unrequited love has a happy ending. Sometimes the unattainable really is unattainable and it sucks. This ep was really everything I love about FNL. Just a mix of heartbreak and hope. Tami loses the battle, but has Eric to boost her up. Saracen gets demoted on the team but his mom and Julie are easing their way back into his life. Landry and Tyra are pretty much all pain, but then we get Smash which is all joy. This was total S1 quality in how it showed all these little life events but how epically huge they feel at the time. |
