I'm not particularly fond of football or Texas, but I *AM* fond of Kyle Chandler so I'll give the first episode a shot.

These are THE WORST Texas accents I have ever heard actors/actresses attempt to utter. THE WORST.
So far, formula show, not impressed. |

I'm liking the "cinematic" feel. But I want alcoholic Tim McGraw.

The really BAD fake Texas twangs are just ruining it for me. I have lived in Texas 6 years, I know how Texans sound and that ain't it.
These stupid Hollywood actors are just trying to sound like hicks and mixing bad southern accent with an attempt at a Texas twang. Assholes. |

I thought the movie was excellent, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to see a TV show about it.
I'd rather ESPN bring back their sudsy drama about that NFL team. |

Who cares about their accents? Really?

So did the critics see a different show? I don't really get the glowing reviews.
Cliched, predictable, and some laughably bad dialogue. Is every ep going to be leading up to "the big game"? If so, this show's going to get stale fast. And I don't get how the backup QB goes from barely being able to get the ball out of his hands to throwing the game winning TD. Could have done without the sermonizing at the end, too. |

I really liked it, it was a virtual rehash of the film but I still felt myself feel surprised at the quarterback's accident then the last surge. I was impressed more with the style of filming and some of the dialogue than I was with some of the acting though.

That thing blew chunks.
What the hell were the critics thinking? Not awful, just semi-lame. Besides, I liked it better when it was called this: ![]() Plus that film gave us a young Ali Larter in a whipped cream bikini: Did anyone see a whipped cream bikini tonight? I didn't think so. |

Quote: Heh. That was irksome. Hollywood needs to know that there are several variations of the Texas accent. But I thought the Varsity Blues accents were worse. |

pretty fucking good for network tv.
of course, people who are into how texans really sound and those who don't like religion will drop off next week, but i like football and good television. i'll be back. i have to say though, that my favorite character so far is the horny real estate lady. "have you ever blitzed an older desperate woman? you could..." |

I loved this. It was much better than I expected. I think it's the best pilot I've seen this year.

I'd be interested to know if those of you who liked it have seen Varsity Blues. Or even the film Friday Night Lights.
I am devasted that some of you, particularly those whom I know well, liked something that I thought was hackneyed tripe. |

Quote: I have seen pretty much ever football movie made in the last eight or nine years. Varsity Blues was funny but the movie wasnt that great and had some of the worst accents i had ever heard. FNL the moivie was good, not as good as the book though. I thought this show was pretty good the acting was ok, the accents were pretty bad, which is unfortunate because tv shows and films always ruin the accents when most times there isnt even a need for them, because there really arent that many people that sound like that here. I think what i like about the show is we are going to get to see the characters develop. in most movies i feel like there is only one character, yes we get to know some of the players a little but by the time we start to like or dislike them the movie is over. Only thing i hated was that bitch ass Mack Brown. |

It was dark and the filming made it hard to watch. I didn't make it til the first commercial.
