Actually, because of the Olympics (in February), it would be much more likely that show would premiere in the first week of March. I read that was NBC's initial plan unless one of their shows tanked, in which case they'd bring Scrubs in early. Doesn't look like that's gonna happen.

I don't think the show will be renewed for next season (mainly because of Earl's success). Damn shame, cause Scrubs is about 9 million times better than My Name Is Earl.

If this season starts in February/March, it'll probably run right through to September (24 episodes). And then they'd begin airing the 6th season immediately afterwards? Unlikely.

Bill Lawrence is pissed, can't blame him.

His NBC sitcom, which received multiple Emmy nominations, was kept off NBC's fall schedule — and Lawrence isn't a happy camper.

"I always sarcastically say that I can't expect my show to be on the air when NBC is doing so well," says Lawrence.

"It's a tough reality for me to face. Our show was nominated for Emmys and is still vibrant and fresh — yet we can't find our way onto a network that's not doing that well.

"I can't say that I'm jazzed."

"Scrubs," a perennial critical favorite but never a ratings blockbuster, will kick off its fifth season early next year as a mid-season replacement.

While Lawrence is thrilled the series was renewed for a 24-episode run — and was honored when TV Guide chose stars Zach Braff, Donald Faison and John C. McGinley to parody a famous "M*A*S*H" TV Guide cover — he looks at NBC's schedule and sees a lost opportunity.

"The main thing that's tough for me to watch is to see 'My Name Is Earl' doing well — I enjoy that show and I see a window of opportunity for us to be on behind that show and have a resurgence," he says. The post-"Earl" timeslot is currently occupied by "The Office."

"Every time we dipped below 75 percent retention our show was moved," Lawrence says. "And ['The Office'] is pulling in about 60 percent retention.

"On the one hand, I think it's admirable. Maybe the new boss-man is sticking with quality. Those shows are both funny and interesting.

"But there's plenty of other vacant spots on NBC's lineup," he says. "I work for those guys and signed a four-year deal with NBC — and I was hoping to get some team loyalty."

In Lawrence's view, NBC doesn't have too much at stake by keeping "Scrubs" on the sidelines.

"The show is owned completely by Disney, so it's a dinosaur from the days when studios still made shows for networks," he says.

"If NBC has to choose between 'Earl' or 'The Office,' which they own 100 percent of . . . if those shows hit, they make money.

"It really comes down to the business of economics."
