It's pretty common knowledge that the higher-ups, after seeing the focus group and test audience results, wanted a more "attractive, appealing" female for the role.
Out with Dratch, in with Krakowski.

^She was originally slated to play the lead of the show within the show ("The Girlie Show") --- but the role was recast and went to Jane Krakowski as you saw tonight.

How queer. There are about 800 torrents for 20 Good Years on the various sites, but nary a one of 30 Rock.

Best thing about the show was the writers room and they were barely in it - which is a good sign for the future when the Morgan/Baldwin plots dry up.
Krakowski managed to fit the part much better than Dratch would. Dratch would be better than Paulson in 'Studio 60' though. |

Pretty good stuff. I'll definitely watch again.
Is it this [eye]? It's not my fault! When we were kids my sister peed in it! |

I had one lol moment... where he's going through his messages and says "5 inches, but it's thick."
these days, one lol moment is enough to bring me back next week. and damn, is SNL missing Tina Fey, or what? she's good. |

I thought it was good...makes me weep for SNL, though.
The ongoing coffee thing was funny. I'm not a HUGE Tracy Morgan fan, but you can tell he's just bizarre, on camera and off. I could do without Jane Krakowski, actually. I liked that NBC page. He's so spastic yet understated, just like when he played the waiter on Arrested Development. |

Quote: Then why didn't they recast Dratch with an actually attractive and appealing female. Krakowski is just a less squat, more blonde version of Dratch (albeit with less comedic range). |

Funny show. No plot, but funny show. There were a lot of reshots, but I'm sure it'll be even better next week.
Alec Baldwin and Tracey Morgan make the show. They have excellent comedic timing. Tina Fey will get better with time. Jane Krakowski was okay, but I'll go along with the network executives and agree that Rachel Dratch was miscast to being with. |

Anyone catch the reference to last season's SNL sketch that had real cats? I don't remember who was the host, but they were in an office and they [SNL staff] were throwing real cats onto the desk. No one in the audience laughed and the sketch tanked.

Quote:X Every joke during that scene worked.. I loved the Leno impressions. I really enjoyed this show but then again I was planning on watching again no matter what b/c I fucking love Tina Fey. I want her to do well..everyone watch! Some parts were hysterical, some sucked..there wasn't much grey for me. Either funny or not funny and the end scene sucked. My fav parts- - Both jokes about Liz's wardrobe. Burger King and K-Mart. - The writers - Dratch as that nasty cat woman - Tracy ordering apple juice and then a vodka tonic - 'When I played a lady rapist on Law and Order..' Great line delivery.. - Jenna's sister peeing in her eye - Anything Alec Baldwin |

just ahead of the premieres of NBC's endlessly promoted "30 Rock" (5.5/9)
At least it did better than Twenty Good Years. |

Quote: Yeah that was when Peter Sarsgaard was hosting. I think it was supposed to be a spoof of Shattered Glass, but I don't think enough people saw the movie to really get it. And hell, I saw it and I didn't get it. It was really bizarre. Anyways, I saw bits and pieces of the show last night. Sucks that it's on at the same time as ANTM. Sorry if it's been asked, does it replay anytime during the week? From what I saw it was pretty funny, much more light-hearted than Studio 60. And I always thought Tracey Morgan was kind of annoying but he actually made me laugh out loud. |

It was pretty disappointing. Laughed a couple of times (mostly at Baldwin) but there really was no story and a lot of the jokes fell flat. I'll give it one more shot next week but my expectations are significantly lowered.
You know Mean Girls was entertaining and all and Tina Fey had some good one-liners on Weekend Update, but why does everyone act like she's some kind of genius? She completely drove SNL into the ground once she took over. |

Quote: What is the expectation for NBC comedies b/c I might be wrong here but although 5.5 isn't good for dramas, don't My Name is Earl and The Office, 2 supposedly hit shows, get about the same ratings consistently? |

Re: RE: 30 Rock | ||

5.5/9 = 5.5 share and 9 million viewers? Households?
I think 9 million viewers would be considered pretty good for a comedy at 8pm |

RE: 30 Rock | ||

I think I read 8.35 million viewers somewhere else. It's a little below what the Office has been getting. It's not bad for a comedy on NBC, but the test will be if it holds up next week since most people were watching out of curiousity last night. I'm kind of hoping it takes a nose dive so some of the heat will be taken off of Studio 60.
