I believe that it's doing fairly well in the ratings after the AI boost. I think I saw a promo that it was the #1 drama on Tuesday nights, but I could be wrong.

I've watched 3 eps of this show and I'm done. It's more predictable than the West Wing already.
Scene 1: Somebody gets deathly ill/ dies horribly with unexplainable symptoms. Scene 2: Dr. House sarcastically spouts platitudes and 4-5 common diagnoses for said symptoms, all of which are (gasp!) wrong. One variation: a second/other patient(s) present(s) with similar symptoms. Scene 3: One of the "Team" suggests a radical/bizarre/little known diagnosis. Patient is treated for radical/little known diagnosis with drugs/treatments/procedures that will prove FATAL if incorrect. Of course, it IS wrong, and the patient is once more on the brink of the Great Unknown. Scene 4: Dr. House send the "Team" on an investigative mission, away from the Hospital, changing their job description from medical practitioner to Detective. They of course find the source of the ailment, and treat the patient in the NICK OF TIME. Scene 5: Dr. House takes the credit, patient/family gushes over the Great Doctor House and he's nominated for Sainthood for the 50th time that week. With slight alterations for time, names and sub-plots, this is essentially an episode of House. It is also the general layout for an episode of Medical Investigations, but that's another story. Or is it?? |

lol
That is extremely accurate. I always get annoyed that these doctors have so much time to go out and investigate things outside of the hospital. So I watched Black Adder last night to get more of the Hugh I fell in love with. How pathetic. I've never drooled over someone I don't know like this before. He's done a lot of aging in 15 years. And he's just not the same without the accent. Sigh. |

House could be boring and predictable were it not for Hugh Laurie. He's fucking hysterical.

I actually like the cast of this show.... and hate the writing. I'll still watch it because of Hugh Laurie. Luckily I get EST and PST channels, so I can catch both this and Amazing Race.

House > Amazing Race.
The writing is clever if it comes out of Hugh Laurie's mouth. I have yet to be bored by an episode. |

He was on an episode of Family Guy - he played the British owner of the Clam's Head Pub, who tried to seduce Lois after Peter was put in prison.
I love this man. |

Awesome. I'll have to pay attention next time that episode comes on! |

This coming Tuesday at 9:00 is ridiculous. I guess I'll watch House, tape NYPD Blue, ask someone else to tape the Amazing Race, and forget about Scrubs. I refuse to have more than one vcr!

If this is supposed to be a showcase for Laurie's talent, I'll pass. I don't find him funny at all. He's got a wierd underbite-lisp thing going on, and the sarcastic-angst is wearing thin already.

I also like that the show is getting into the characters without it all being about intercharacter drama. Like the monster truck rally, and the guy from Dead Poets Society and his brother....

Quote: Another plot point you forgot to mention is that House will accuse either the patient or the patient's family of lying about something. Finally they admit to it and the mystery is solved. There are so many asshole relatives in this show. Why can't they shut the hell up? Why aren't they kicked out of the room when someone is going into some kind of distress. They seem to be given free reign to get in the way of every treatment, yell, attack people, etc. I really hate all the family members in this show. |

Re: house | ||

Forgot to mention last week how amused I was to see Bryan Singer turn up as the director of the baseball player's psa.
I've wondered why the Dead Poet Society actor would take that role - it's a pretty thankless second banana thing. Maybe we'll see his backstory soon (sounds like Lost). My husband and I laugh out loud more at this show than any other. They give House some of the most outrageous dialogue, and I'm pleased to see that it isn't being watered down by the pc police. Also liked how the story between the Chase doctors wasn't resolved - no warm fuzzy wrap up. |

Re: house | ||

I like this show but the plot points are very repetitive.
However, the addition of the cancer stricken father of whoever the cute doctor is was a nice touch. I don't think the father ever did tell the son - did House? |

Re: house | ||
|
Nope, House kinda saw that the son had to decide to know on his own. Then, when he did, the father chose not to tell the son. I almsot cried, it was so sad.
Although the plot of each episode is similar regarding the medical stuff, it keeps me engaged, and they really are developing the characters well outside of the medical drama. Such as House's addiction, and then the Chases this week. There was the Monster Truck Rally thing a few weeks back, etc. But it's never the driving force behind the show, which is what makes it interesting and different as opposed to an ER type of thing. Oh, and the Bryan Singer cameo was hilarious. Not many people would know that was him, which made it better. |

Re: house | ||

I agree that the character development, while slow, is actually quite enjoyable. I think House is the type of person we all wish we could be - no limits, no artifical boundaries on what we say, no political correctness etc.
I just hope the writers can keep coming up with plausible medical scenarios. It kindof reminds me of Robin Cook's books - eventually, they all have the same feel. Who's Bryan Singer?? I obviously completely missed that part. |

Re: house | ||
|
He's the director of X-Men & X:2 as well as The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, and he's doing the new SUperman movie.
He's also House's executive producer. He played the director of the TV commercial last week. As for keeping up the bizarre medical issues, I think there are a multitude of diseases people can catch, so that's no problem. I don't think its that bizarre that House gets all these weird cases. It's a learning/teaching hospital, so they'll get "different" patients, and it also seems that there is a certain esteem for House himself, which means he gets to pick which ones interest him - of course he picks the most bizarre. |
