My sisters and I used to play TPIR. Our front sidewalk was the aisle we'd run down, and then our lovely bikes and yard tools were the glamorous prizes.

I post on GR.net some, and I'm pretty sure that the winner of the Double Showcase did in fact listen to Ted's bid, there's no way he thought of it
on his own.

You folks are so adorable. Like Gregoire said, though, how many Showcases have there been? I think it's just luck but he's trying to appear smart. |

The Showcase Showdowns were debuted when the show was revamped in 1972, 36 years ago. Let's conservatively estimate that there are 100 shows filmed a year. That's 3,600. Now add another 400 to account for various nighttime versions of the show throughout the year. 4,000 shows, 4,000 showdowns, 8,000 bids. It's not surprising to me at all that one of 8,000 bids -- using variations of 4 and 5 digit numbers -- would be right on the nose. This one is a lot more entertaining to watch:

You guys are so cute.
I think there wouldn't be this much backlash if Drew had only made a huge hoohaw as he announced the winner. It was just bizarre to watch him read the price blandly & move on. Now that I know they stopped taping it makes more sense but he still could have acted more excited. I'm slowly accepting Drew more on the show. I guess it's because I get his dry sense of humor. I especially love it when he disses the prizes. And he usually gets more excited over big wins than Bob did. That's another reason why the exact bid was so odd. |

Watching that clip really makes me think TPIR is nothing without Bob Barker. I gave Drew a chance, but he just sucks. |

I forgot to add to my post up there that I can understand how someone could memorize the prices of the big ticket prizes. I'm getting sorta good at it
myself since I watch all the time these days. I find myself being proud that I can distinguish the lovely Broyhill living room sets from those by Laura Ashley
before they're even announced.
I usually feel sorry for the contestants who get Broyhill shit. I like the Ashley ones better. |

I would always love when old women would win something like a motorcycle.
One of my favorite contestants (by favorite, I mean the guy was a dumbass) was this young guy who just moved into his first place. He was really desperate to get a bed set. He was the top winner going into the showcase, so he got to choose whether he wanted the first one or pass it. Well, the first showcase has something like two fucking cars in it, and the dude passes it, hoping to get a bedroom set. I think the second showcase basically had a nice dinette set and I believe he lost anyway. |

I agree that if he was cheating he should have been smart enough to bid $50-$100 lower to make it less obvious. Still would have gotten both
showcases.
I was looking at TPIR youtube vids and I saw this one. It's classic Bob. The contestant totally fucks up the game.

Awwww, that poor guy just seemed to panic and hit the button. Seriously, who hits the button?

Oh dear god...
I definitely think that guy knew exactly what he was doing when he hit the button. I can't believe they gave him the prize. |

This is the best Bob available on Youtube.
I don't really watch the show anymore but I don't hold any ill will toward Drew. Of course he's not going to be as good as Bob, and of course the show will never be as good without Bob. But Bob had to leave eventually. Would you want the show to go with him? I want to believe the guy cheated, but how exactly would he have done so? It's not like the prices are somewhere on stage. At worst he memorized MSRPs of every possible product and added in his head, and that's what you're supposed to do. |

I hate watching people the 10 chances game. If there is a 0, and it is included in the price, it will be at the end 99 times out of 100. The prize will also
virtually always end with a 5 or 0.
As for the show leaving with Bob, I don't think I'd mind too much. I really don't watch it now and I hate when gameshows have major changes. Any one that has been brought back tends to suck compared to the original. |

I love that the contestant who has won the most in the history of daytime Price Is Right is a fat woman named Vickyanne. I sware, I almost teared up watching
that video. How can a person win that many prizes on one game show? It's amazing!
