I liked it okay, lots of interesting storylines set up. Obviously, Dexter killing an "innocent" person is gonna bring about some really interesting things in his character, but I didn't like how it happened. I mean, the whole decay of Harry's Code has been the central theme of the whole series, so it makes sense. But, I mean, the end of last season's arc was all about how Dexter couldn't kill Doakes because it was so against the code, to the point where Dexter would rather turn himself in and have it all be over. And in the very next episode after that, he just kills some random innocent guy on an impulse? That's kinda....lame. I would have rather he stepped over that line and killed Doakes himself as a cliffhanger than this. It gets you to the same place but it's much more thematically satisfying. Just my two cents.

Deb and Angel are both going in good directions, nothing much to comment on though.

As for the last line, wow. It's funny how pregnancy is the most cliche plotline ever as far as TV shows go, but it's sooooo not in this case. I absolutely cannot wait to see where this goes. Interestingly, this episode was really inferring that Dexter is getting feelings for Rita and the kids for real, in a way he never has before. I love that he actually seems to be developing a real sense of humanity for the first time in his life at the same time he kills his first innocent person. Yay for internal struggle.

Ooh, one more thing. I really, really, really don't like Jimmy Smits or his character. So that's kinda bummed me out. Hopefully he goes somewhere interesting, but bleh so far.

Ah yes, I worded that wrong. Obviously a self-defense/instinct situation, but Dexter himself described as "doing something spontaneous." I got waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the plot there, I was thinking that one possible route this could lead to is Dexter blurring the lines around who's really "worthy" of being killed by him.......or something. Or not. That's why I mentioned the Doakes thing, because killing an innocent person to save himself (a different but equal form of self-defense) gets the plot to the same place. It's way too early to know where exactly this is going, I didn't really think about mentioning that in my earlier post. I dunno, I'm rambling here!
