You can also watch it on TMN On Demand.
Best new show of the season, for sure.

You can see the show in Canada. If you have The Movie Network. It airs on Monday nights. I think they air it again on Friday nights too.
You can also watch it on TMN On Demand. Best new show of the season, for sure. |

I ordered the Dexter books from amazon. I can't wait to sit up all night reading them.

So in the new episode, is it that he is starting to develop human feels, love feelings but he doesn't know it. He can't even recognize it because he's been so detached all his life?

This show is awesome. And the opening credits rock! I hardly read a single name on them because I'm too busy focusing on the visuals.
I love seeing former OZ actors pop up on TV shows. Cyril O'Reilly tonight to go with the others already there. |

Things I find weird:
He says he has no feelings and emotions, but I don't think that really shows. Sure, he also says he has learned to "play the game" and stuff, but I don't think someone with no emotions would pick up a child, play airplane with it and enjoy it so much. There are more things like this. I guess you could even say someone with no emotions wouldn't give a shit about what some foster dad told him to do, and would just kill whenever the hell he felt like it. But that wouldn't leave the show with much to go on. I also find it weird that his sister wasn't in on his urges. A cop family, the dad being so involved in it, she seems like a curious chick who must have noticed something was going on and would try to figure it out. Another thing, the black police guy's hatred for him is a little over the top. Okay, some people pick up on his creepiness more than others, but that shouldn't mean that everyone fucking LOVES the guy and one dude hates his guts. Again, his sister should at least feel that something is off with him. |

I don't think everyone loves him, but the black cop is a live wire. He's angry, suspicious and impulsive, so I'm not surprised that he's the only one who picks up on Dexter's weirdness. And like the ice truck killer, I suspect there are some shared characteristics between Dexter and the black cop that the black cop recognizes (on however small a level) in Dexter.
I've always gotten the impression that Dexter's sister isn't terribly bright (if not a little daft) and part of Dexter's constant encouragement of her is what helps him keep her in the dark. I also think Dexter's ability to "play the game" but internally recognize that he's putting on a front is an acknowledgment of his own status as a sociopath (which to my very lay understanding is common among many serial killers). |

I woke up around 3am b/c for some reason I put 2&2 together and realized that his sister is Emily Rose.
Quote: Simple--she's an idiot. She can't figure anything out with someone's [Dexter's] help. I was mad that he didn't kill the guy who came and took the girlfriend's car. How bizarre was that whole thing? |

I'm expecting his girlfriend to be some kind of fucked-up, twisted character.

Quote: Not at all. I would have been surprised if he did anything aggressive in public. His whole life has been about controlling and hiding his urges. He's a psychopath so he's not emotional. He kills because he has urges and he's focused his psychosis on being a vigilante. It made perfect sense for him to play calm and go borrow another car for her. That's what she wanted - that's what he gave her. |

I read that the premiere episode got the highest ratings of any Showtime series in the past two years.
I haven't been able to find out the ratings for episode 2 or 3 yet, though. |

This show gets better every week.
"If I had a heart, it would be breaking" Can't wait for next week. Best writing and acting to come along since Deadwood IMO. |

Quote: I don't give a fuck what you meant, genius. I didn't find it bizarre that he didn't kill the boyfriend because he does not operate that way. I would have been shocked had he displayed any emotions or aggressions at the time publicly or otherwise, and I wouldn't expect him to have an urge to kill that man because he took the gf's car. My point was that he is portrayed as an emotionless serial killer who thrills in killing other killers. He's a psychopath who has worked very hard at channeling and hiding his urges. He's not a thug. |

He also seems to have a set of rules regarding who and how he kills, so I wasn't expecting him to retaliate against that rascal (at least, not yet).

Thanks Mods for unlocking and my apologies again for not adding this to the sticky in a timely manner.
on topic - Michael Hall is amazing in this role. I've never seen Six Feet Under, but I think that is my next round on Netflix (after I'm caught up with Lost). Even my hubby, who doesn't like shows that glorify murder, loves Michael Hall in the role of Dexter. |
