I don't remember the morning show - I remember it being on, but never was able to watch it. My first experiences with Dave were from The Tonight Show and as a panelist on The Gong Show.
Yes, totally remember Arnie and each time they'd speak, they'd show the the "Sketch of Arnie Barnes" and that looked alot like, if my memory serves correctly, the Police photo of Paul Reubens when he got busted for porn in Sarasota. But as to the Daytime Show, do you remember the one episode of Late Night where the premise was that since alot of people tape the show to watch the next morning, that they'd change the background and everything to have it be a morning show, and they even brought in a former Miss America to be the co-host for the day. NOW, with that segue, one of Dave's favorite guests from the Late Night days was Jane Pauley, but I hadn't seen her AT ALL on Late Show. Then, on the 10th anniversary show in August (I know this because I just saved the bits to DVD off of Tivo), she came out to help Paul with the cape. That being said, there is still one old favorite who is, I imagine, persona non grata, and that would be Bob Costas, probably because he's a contributing reporter/shill for Assclown. |

Oh Yes Bob Costas... He stopped coming by after he got his own show later. Although, he onced answered his mail on Dave's segment since his show was only 30 minutes and he didnt have his own mail segment.
Actually, Tom Brokaw will always be one of my favorites. He stood by David after the move to CBS. On his first show on CBS, he came by to confiscate the monologue cue cards since they were "Intellectual Property" of NBC. After that, there was no more mention of that. One of my fav moments w/Jane involves Bryant Gumbel, when there were taping an outdoor segment for the today show, Dave got a bullhorn and said that he was Grant Tinker (I believe that is who dave was impersonating) and he wasnt wearing pants. Jane Pauley cracked up, but Bryant got really pissed off, thus starting the infamous feud between them. |

I remember watching his morning show. I can't remember what time it was on, but I know it wasn't real early because I would watch it then watch Price Is Right. I know it started in the summer but don't know when it ended. I was a little kid, and I watched it until school started in the fall. I watched a lot of them. I remember because I told my mom that was the guy from Mork and Mindy. Then when he started the Late Night I watched pretty damn close to all of them. I have like over 1000 of his NBC shows on tape. They are so old and the tracking is going to hell. I still have my LNwDL t-shirts. Still, hands down, the smartest and funniest guy on tv ever.
And, my favorite Larry Bud thing was when they broke a board over his head. It was supposed to be break away, but it wasn't. "Son of a bitch, son of a bitch." That is the funniest shit I have ever seen. |

Re: Questions | ||
Quote: I think he stopped coming on when the CBS move occurred, because he would still talk with Dave when he had his own show - in fact, Dave was a guest on Later before his 10th anniversary and was dumbfounded because Costas was rattling off Dave moment after Dave moment and Dave said that he (Dave) can't even remember anything about the previous night's show. As for Brokaw, yeah, he was reprimanded by the NBC brass for that opening night move because he didn't tell anyone about it. And as for hushmoney, to quote Wayne and Garth, "WE'RE NOT WORTHY! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!" THAT, sportsfans, is dedication and devotion. Wow. Not to sell the others of you out there short, I am just in total awe at how many of you are like so totally dedicated to Dave. Much like the New Canaan police, you are the unsung heroes of the 20th century.....(the pros will easily recognize that from the old Top 10 list book #2, I believe) |

A friend of mine used to go see him when he was on NBC pretty often. Tickets were easy to score back then. She and her twin sister used to go and he made a spectacle of them on air because they had fake bake tans in February. So funny.
My sister got tickets in November '94. We took the train out from New England - big day We bought sandwiches off Rupert and visited Mujibur and Sirajul - they autographed Dave Tshirts for us and everything The studio is as cold as they say and you end up watching the show on the monitors cause it's tough to see Dave with the cameras, etc. I saw myself on tape - had an aisle seat. They did this lame sitcom reunion thing and the characters came running down the aisles for it. Yeah, I did the lean over thing the guy did the other night Anyhoooo....anyone else been to the show? |

Quote: Probably true but he is still so so funny. Just reading this thread had me laughing. My favorite memories are when he interacts with regular folks and especially when he went to work in the fast food and asked a customer to go to the store and buy some onions, and the customer did it. I love it when he trashes the boss and the suits when he gets mad. He just doesn't give a shit once he gets mad. I love Dave. He seems very complex and very sensitive. I watch Letterman to laugh with Dave. I watch Leno for the guests. |

Being reminded of all the Larry Bud moments makes me wish I had the Trio channel. I remember all of those now that y'all have mentioned them. I even remember the guy from Omaha Steaks. I'd like to see some of the Chris Elliott stuff. I used to watch Dave twice every night because we had 2 NBC stations in our viewing area and he came on an hour later on one of them.
What about the CBS years? What has been the most memorable moments from them? Other than the poignant Dave moments like post surgery and post 9/11 and birth of Harry? Those are in a special class by themselves. Oh and the Survivor rants. Those were good. |

Quote: yeah, he's a very private man. that's why I relish my memories of having met him. He paid for my lunch. have I told that here already? I remember all of the bits that have been mentioned. I used to watch the daytime show. Yes, it did exist! I am pretty sure that Richard Simmons hasn't been back since the Turkey Incident, as I call it. He made a move on Dave, and it was the last straw. Dave has milked that off and on though. it happened on Nov 22 of whatever year. I remember because it was my wedding anniversary. my fave stuff was when Dave would dress in various 'suits'- sponge suit ("someday, you'll be able to tell your grandkids that you saw the Human Sponge!") the velcro suit, the rice krispies suit. Another fave was throwing things off the roof (he's done a bit of that recently) and using a steam roller to crush things. |

I've watched Dave very, very consistently since his health crisis from a few years ago and I am certain that Richard Simmons has not been back since the Turkey incident. By "move" do you mean what I think you mean?
I saw some of the suits, but not all. I remember the Velcro and the cereal bowl things. |

I remember an Alka Seltzer suit. They lowered Dave into a vat of water with the suit. Unfortunately, the odors from the suit made him really sick.
I love the hail the size of canned hams! And my personal fave...They pelted us with rocks and garbage. |

Christina Aguilera was on last nite...I was hoping Dave would ask her about her opinions on Britney and her whole marriage fiasco..lol But they talked about her piercings and how little kids are afraid of her.

Re: Dave | ||

One of the bits from the cbs show I like is Dave's Mom. she really is a good sport. From her participation in Holiday Pies to having Marv Albert for Thanksgiving Dinner. She is always fun to see on the show. She even covered the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer Norway, Nagano Japan and Utah. When she was in Japan she didnt like the food so every day she ate @ Denny's w/her husband and Biff. And of course, everytime we look in her refrigerator there is alway Colt 45.

I remember on the old show, Dave used to have a thing for both Connie Chung and Terri Garr (who were both quite hot in their day). Anyone remember when Dave made Terri Garr to take a shower on the show?

"If everyone watches Letterman, why does Leno beat him every night?"
b/c only stupid redneck luddites are the nielson families. these losers actually love jay leno. although this board is bitter and cynical, it only represents a very small, but highly evolved and intellectual, cohort of the population. letterman rules with anyone who has a brain just like the daily show with stewart and even dennis miller rule with many of us educated. just goes to show you how stupid most of this country is. |

Chris Elliott as the guy under the seats! Funny as hell.
And the Neilson thing is so true. My parents were Neilson people for years. They are/were the most boring people in the world. Blame them for Touched by an Angel. I am soooo sorry. Please forgive me. |

Quote: Sadly, not many people today will know the show that he was spoofing. Also, with respect to Friday's episode, was it me or has Christina joined the masses and done the boob job thing? Also, I would venture that in the pre-interview, she stated that she will not discuss Britney. |
