no he's always been opposing...well, except when he defended Denny & Alan in Utah. Which was silly anyway. Just a wasted opportunity for a more deserving character.

This show is SO meta. Love it.
I agree this episode was actually painful to watch sometimes. Most of this wasn't entertaining bickering but Funny Games movie level kind of sick banter that wasn't too fun to watch. But I think the purpose of all this was to get shit out into the open and bring in most of the existing characters into one place having sharp quips, and marry off Shirley so they can get off that subject. And in these ways I think the episode worked. (I'm getting tired of the Shirley crushing, it's getting to the point of hearing teenage girls talk for God's sake) It is kind of sad that this show is probably going to end in some entropic finale, until all is lost nihilistic thing, unless they are setting us up for a comeback underdog happy ending which I would appreciate in these Obama days. I would be so pissed if Denny Crane really did kill himself because his "Mad Cow" made him lose all faculties. Seriously, if you are reading this Bochco if you do this to Shatner I will boycott your shows for life. Don't kill him! |

I laughed and then I cried and cried. I can't believe we're going to lose this wonderful view of life.

I am glad I am not the only one who cried
I saw the other day that this show has never won Best Drama at the Emmy's. Here is the discription for the finale which is 2 hours!

Thanks Will!! ;)
Oh I always cry...that's a given! But yeah, I'm glad they were getting some things out of the way. Just seemed forced at times. But of course, we're all looking at it in a different way now too |

That spoiler sounds promising. |

I'm a DVR'er so I just watched it. Loved the episode as always and I'm gonna miss this show.
Good to see they brought back Betty White for next week. She's a hoot! |

I honestly think the voters don't know what to do with shows that have drama and humor. Especially quirky humor. It has to be "Everybody
Loves Raymond" (blah) or "ER" or there's no consideration. How "The Defenders" show didn't win an award is a
real crime, just to name a single episode. And of course, it's political so there's that too. Who knows? IMO very few memorable shows
win awards.

The show was good as always - the problem to me was that they stripped away most of the quirk to make it more gritty; so for me it was a little too
"truthful" (hard to explain)
They are closing it out and that is how the episode felt to me and damnit I don't want it to go!!! I actually liked that Shirley and Carl are to get married; it was a nice moment in the midst of a lot "stuff" being put out there. My first thought re: Denny was OMG, Alan is going to end up shooting Denny :ack! I had kinda hoped they would have their cigars outside at Shirley's to mimic their usual end :-) I'm kinda glad actually that they showed Katie "rejecting" Jerry - I wouldn't have bought her reciprocating romantic feelings and I LOVE that they have their own unique relationship they were able to talk about (the couples counseling remark I actually would believe from these two just like I would with Denny and Alan - go figure) Damn I'm going to miss this show |

I loved it for the absurdity of the dinner table conversation alone. Such a lively, disfunctional bunch!
It was sad to find out the firm is broke though. I never thought we'd see the end of that part of the show. But I'd rather see the firm close over seeing Denny succomb to the mad cow. And more Betty White! Perfection! |

spot on all the way, Trixie....my feelings exactly!
truth can be painful for sure, and we're also feeling the truth of the ending of the show I'm watching the reruns on ION and I actually can't believe how much the show challenged everyone to grow (including the viewer) I mean I always knew it did, but damn!! this is truly an epic series. And dare I say, I'd rather have it go out with a decent ending rather than a surprise cancellation, and I'd rather have it go out on top form. Not gonna like it, but it will feel complete. Know what I mean?? |

I just can't believe that I just fell in love with this show in time for the end.
Now, I'm wishing I could get ahold of the final season of The PRactice to see the embryonic stage of Denny/Alan. I liked the Thanksgiving eppy, because I got to see the Poole from Crane Poole & Schmidt. I don't get NOT loving Jerry... but whatev. That gal is missing out. If I were her, I'd have jumped on him ... Jerry is awesome. Sometime in the past week.... I have fallen madly in love with Alan Shore. :O I can't believe I'm hot for an overweight James Spader, when he never appealed to me at all while he was thin. weird. I want to sex him up when I watch BL. There is something about Alan Shore-- the way he was willing to be fired and sabotaged Denny at the security check in-- that was really hot. I don't know the name of that episode, but it rocked. That poor doctor though, with only a year to live from the basically self imposed liver damage. so sad. I'm avoiding the spoilers. I want to be in shock and awe. Every eppy has hit me that way, so it will be no exception, I'm sure. |

tigeranne wrote:Check FX on Sunday mornings around 8am Eastern. They show "The Practice". Sometimes it appears on Saturdays and Sundays, but lately, it's just been the 1 day. They are up to episodes from November, 2001. I don't remember what year the final season was for this show, but I know I've seen the Alan Shore episodes during the first go-round of repeats. So sooner or later, they'll show up again (if you don't want to do Netflix). There isn't so much Denny/Alan relationship, though, but there is a LOT of Alan wreaking havoc at the old firm, which had become unbearably stodgy. IIRC, Denny shows ups in maybe the final episode or two. |

willsucks402 wrote: This show will always be toward the top off my all time greatest show TV list. I used to watch the Practice and liked that as well. It got really bad in the last couple of years. I thought it was hilarious that Shatner and Spader both got emmy's when they were not even main characters at that time. They made the end of the Practice bearable to watch. I bet the regular cast was PISSED that they got all the recognition. I am completely convinced that it will be a "gone fishing" type ending. No way Alan kills Denny. I think they they head off on never ending road tour. That would make us all Happy !! |
