It could have been worse.

Quote: My thoughts exactly. His character worked better against the (somewhat) sane characters and drama on The Practice. I think all the comedy, and quirky characters on this show, will lessen the appeal of the character. |

How could any of you hate this show?
I watch it for the funny shit that goes on. Hell, if it came from the warped mind who brought you Boston Public and has to deal with Michelle Pfeiffer day in and day out, then yeah, this is good...Spader and Shatner have good chemistry, in an almost funny sort of way that we haven't seen on tv in years. |

I prefer my funny shit when it's not meant to be funny shit for the sake of being funny shit all the time. This is a drama, not a sitcom! There ought to be some balance; some serious shit would di very nicely. Plus, I don't care about these characters (yet), so the funny shit they get themselves into doesn't really "click" with me.
I'll keep watching. Maybe it'll get better. Freddie Prinze Jr. is supposed to guest star in an upcoming episode... Oh, and I kinda like the opening sequence. |

I liked this show, precisely because it makes fun of itself and does NOT take anything, including itself, seriously. Big improvement over the "too much drama" shows that are the flavor of the day now.
For pete's sakes, do we really need a gazillion Law and Order and CSI spinoffs, all on at the same fricking time? |

Down with multiple permutations of procedural crime dramas.
Still, Boston Legal's lead-in, Desperate Housewives, actually has a similar tone. It's a "black comedy" and not really very seriously. Somehow though, DH pulls things off soooooooo much better. I think David E.Kelly and his cohorts need to take a break from the TV business... |

Well, Mr. Highway will be giving his nod of approval to this Mr. Kelley production. For some reason, I find this legal dramedy to be quite pleasing.
I love the fact that after Mr. Shatner or Mr. Spader takes action or speaks in a way that could be perceived as amoral or taken as a big middle finger to political correctness, the music kicks in with a big guitar riff as if to say, "Oh yeah, that's how we roll." Truly brilliant entertainment. Spader, Shatner, I bow before your greatness. Keep up the goodwork. |

I like the show well enough, it makes me laugh and raise the occasional eyebrow at the clever thought process. I'm apparently very shallow though, because I can't get past the schnoz on the dark haired chick that's playing Spaders girlfriend. Geezy mo, even done up gorgeous for tonights party I thought they might've done a good job with make up or something....then they did a profile and I can only say ouch. I don't like her, and I don't know how much of that is not liking her nose.

I find myself enjoying this show...and I thought I wouldn't. Shatner and Spader are great...and the other characters are starting to grow on me. It has a good mix of drama and comedy. I will definitely keep watching this show.

For me, this is a breath of dirty laundry....and I love it!
(please excuse me if I use the same phrase to describe my enjoyment of Desperate Housewives....finally ABC has come up with a night worth watching (and just in time to get me over my "missing Six Feet Under blues")!) As stated before in this thread, how many CSI or Law & Order spin-offs can we have? Part of the reason I was intrigued by this show was the Rebecca De Mornay character. Wonder what happened in those negotiations.... I think the weakest link is the Sally character (not so good, that actress), and I don't buy the relationship. Love the "Ken-Doll" lawyer. Love Rhona Mitre (sp?), but I think she is under-utilized. Spader is wonderful. And could there ever be a better role for William Shatner? OMG! David E. Kelly must be writing every word with Shatner's delivery in mind. Again, I miss De Mornay's character from The Practice. But Boston Legal is definitely worth the time. |

I fail to see why Lake Bell was cast. She's a bad actress and fugly.

Spader's cool. Shatner is cool.
But for the love of God, more Rhona Mitra. My approval of this show is directly proportional to the amount of airtime of Miss Mitra. |

I thought the closing scene between Rene and Bill was great. The show has good potential. We know the range of these actors and hopefully it's all just getting started. I'm tired of all the same story rip-off shows. Hey, I didn't even think of them as Odo and Kirk

With lines like "I'm sure you'll find that witty comeback in your office" or "You disapprove of me, that warms my cockles"
this keeps getting better and better. I think this is just a perfect mix of drama and dark comedy. Even last episode Spader was showing his soft side, he likes the gal you can tell, and it's going to be nice to see how they work out with the psycho ex being back in town. Shatner's character is a one trick pony though, I think. Tis sad because I love the character! |

Let me guess..is Donny Crane's next case suing Mom for lying to him to find his real father? Why couldn't they just leave Denny as the real father..I would rather watch Alan and the psycho ex than he and Sarah..such a lame actress.

I loved last night's episode!
How troubled was that gal when she knew the man was guilty of murder but she really thought she was going to get him off. Wow! I loved it. I love Spader and how they "call upon him" when they need something unconventional. Did she really break up with him last night? Denny Crane. |

This show is not bad....but the only reason I ever watched it was because it comes on right after Desperate Housewives. I never would have made an effort to find it otherwise.
But it kind of runs hot and cold...last weeks episode was boring as hell, I fell asleep part way through. This week was better with the mental case lawyer and James Spader being so evil to the storeclerk. Well of course Spader is the only one worth watching the show for anyway, I love the zingers he hurls at the Ken doll in a totally deadpan way. And when Captain Kirk walks by and keeps stating "Denny Crane"....never fails to crack me up. Gotta agree with the opinions on the man looking chick, Sally? Ugh. |
