....that black guy who is 'new to the town'....something seems odd about his character....he just seemed to 'knowitall'....which it is good-seemed like he knew more than the townspeople themselves.
IMO.

The gas in the bus thing really bothered me. There was a 1/4 tank of gas in that bus and he was worried they weren't going to make it back to town? How far away were they?
I thought the note for the flight said 10:30 PM so that would have made sense. Mostly I enjoyed it and since Gerald McRaney is a guilty pleasure of mine, I liked his presence! |

Is it better than LOST? Cause I love Lost.

20% great, 60% middling, 20% shite. All in all, I was terribly disappointed, because the premise was so exciting.
"Let's all stop our looting so we can gather round a mayoral candidate and listen to him speak!" Surprise! The little girl woke up after the handy pocket knife, straws and bandaid solution. And thank god she knew to be calm without anybody telling her. "Now you all go home now. Sure Denver and Atlanta just blew up, but y'all get a good night's sleep, and we'll see what we can do in the morning. Just DON'T DISAPPOINT ME AGAIN." The production felt cheap, especially the dead bird scene, which was supposed to wow me, aesthetically. I can't help comparing it to LOST, and in doing so, it sucked. The "fifty-cents" guy was the best part about the show. Next week better be a lot better. Don't disappoint me again. |

Some very poor writing makes me inclined not to watch it ever again.

It picked up after the explosion. Got some 9/11 vibes from it. I'll tune in next week to see what happens.
Is it bad I don't like the main guy? Or anyone in his family besides his mother? |

Vandelay, there's bonus material in this version.

It was good for a pilot.
I love those actors where as soon as you see them, you know they're trouble - like the guy who was running as the mayor's opponent. Skeet (the poor man's Johnny Depp according to Chris Rock) saved the day and made his family proud. YAY! |

Not technically accurate. If they were close enough to see the mushrood cloud (10-15 miles), they'd all be dead by now, either vaporized by the blast, or by the shockwave, or the firestorm that follows, or they would have all received a lethal dose of radiation from standing around outside.
If Jericho was a couple of hundred miles from ground zero, they should not have seen the cloud, and would not have known about the blast since all the TV and radio was out. If a nuke went off in Atlanta, those people would never have seen it coming, and couldn't have left the phone message (it would have cut out in the middle without explanation). BTW, how did the gas pumps still work if the power was out. Theoretically, after a nuke detonation, there's so much electrical disturbance (EMP Effect), that anything using a semi-conductor would be burned out. No power, no phones, no computers, even cars with electronic ignitions won't work. That's why they call it "nuking someone back into the stone age". |

Is this good enough to not get cancelled for a few weeks?

It depends on what the key demos are. Of course, with Jericho being on CBS, the 18-49 numbers aren't as important as they are for the other networks.

Re: Good Show | ||

I wanted to like it. I was happy to see McRaney back. I was thrilled to see lots of not too often seen character actors and actresses back on TV. But the plot had many holes, too many scientific and social implausibilities - many of which have already been mentioned. I could not suspend my disbelief THAT much.
I hope it improves. I'll give it another look next week. I want to support SF on TV as much as I can but lame storylines and too slow plot developments make me forget some shows are even on. Oh, and that knowitall black guy, if he doesn't have some sort of mystery subplot inbedded in the character, sucks. If he is just a knowitall St. Louis cop who was given a cold shoulder then saves the day that is SO totally bullshittingly lame. Cancel the show now. BUT, if there is a mystery subplot and he is more than that, like some gob'ment scientist or muckymuck that just happened to find himself in Kansas when shit hit all the other fans well,...then let it develop but don't wait too long to get that subplot going. I wanted to like Invasion, too but I could never stay awake long enough to get through an episode and never cared enough to watch the tape before taping over it with something else. I don't want that to happen to Jericho but...if it continues as lame and with as much implausibility as the pilot showed then let it die in the first blasts. No lingering radiation halflife for the POS. |

Those are actually surprisingly good ratings. Much better than I thought it would do. It kicked the crap out of Kidnapped, and that show had a lot more promotion and pre-show buzz.
Now that it looks like the show might actually stay on the air for at least a whole season, I'm tempted to give it another shot. Maybe I'll watch the repeat of the pilot again on Saturday. It will also be interesting to see how Heroes does in the ratings. It's the other big sci-fi show of the season. |

It was much better than I expected, very fast-paced, but then, Armageddon always helps move the plot along. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain the tension in coming weeks.
Who played the teacher with the broken leg on the bus? Very familiar, but I can't place her. Was she on Buffy? |

Thanks, DA. I remember her from the little-watched "Over There." She played the wife of the soldier who lost his leg in Iraq.

Re: Jericho - It's the end of the world (as we know it) | ||

I think a better premise for the show would have been to eliminate the mushroom clouds, and keep the town "in the dark" for a few episodes. Besides, if the blast in denver was really a couple of hunderd miles away, nobody in Jericho should have been able to see it anyways.
Imagine a typical day in downtown Jericho.....everyone is minding their own business......then WHAM! The power goes out. No TV, no radio, no phones, no communication with the outside world at all. Slowly panic and paranoia would grip the town as they demand answers, but there aren't any answers to be had (at least for the first few episodes until they get a ham radio working). Not only would the population of Jericho be searching for answers, but the TV viewer would be kept guessing as well. Cue Twilight Zone episode The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street. The scene where the girl was driving to the airport in Wichita when she came across the dead birds (or livestock) in the road would have been the perfect ending for Ep 1. What the hell happened, and how do we deal with it. CBS as already skipped the "what the hell happened" part, and that could have been half the fun. Face it...if the Others had come out 5 minutes after the plane crash and introduced themselves, and explained their purpose on the island.....Lost would have been cancelled after 6 eppys. |
