This show is amazing in how you can go from being shocked that Don shoved Betty (who so totally deserved it) one minute to feeling so bad for him in the next when he's talking to his son. And who can stay mad at a kid who says, "We'll have to get you a new daddy"? I swear they got that kid from the Cutest Kid in the World Store. This show didn't have much happening in it, but you could feel the tension in all of the families involved. Excellent episode.

Last year they got me with "It's not a wheel; it's a carousel.", and this time they got me with "We're gonna hafta get you a new daddy." Ohmylord. I have a four-year old myself - a little troublemaker, natch - and he speaks like Don's kid. I never had a chance. I wasn't the biggest fan of the first 45 minutes of this episode, although I enjoy the ride. But as an episode, it was just there... until the last 15 minutes, when it exploded back into its natural awesomeness with one little toy toss. I love the way they are showing the idiosynchrasies of a devolving marriage. (Perhaps I should leave out 'devolving'?) We need more Pete. More Roger. More Joan.

I can't decide if he seemed judgmental or not.

It's like only doing something nice for what you expect in return. She's taking care of Peggy's kid for her but it's like she's just doing it to be the "good daughter". She wants Peggy to feel/look bad .. or at least worse than her.

I think the sister was fine with everything until this priest thing. She couldn't possibly be jealous of Peggy because to her, Peggy hadn't accomplished anything. Unlike the sister who was married and a devoted mother and good Catholic. The new priest was coming to her house for dinner! But then... the priest shows interest in Peggy's work and knowledge and to top it off, blows the sister off the next week (with guests in the house!) all the while praising Peggy who is not even a devout Catholic. Now that their mom is happy with Peggy, and the priest is impressed with Peggy... well that's too much and the sister couldn't take it. She needed to squash the priest's admiration of Peggy.

At least, she seemed contrite in the confession booth. (Now the bonus question is whether the priest, liberal as he seems, broke the seal of confession in his last scenes with Peggy). Guess I've never been a Peggy fan, but I was hoping the bitch would at least give her egg to her "not-son" after one of the bigger kids made off with the egg he had his eye on. Pretty poignant scene there. Little toddler struggles towards the egg. Move forward to Don and the last scenes with his own son. I'm really over the Bobbie subplot though. The skank likes having her snatch snatched. Now what?

"they'll know, but they won't know..." that was the priest's thing here. it was perfect...

He did, if he used the information he received from Peggy's sister... but I'm not sure the sister's confession included the tidbit that she is now raising Peggy's illegitimate child. In which case, "for the little one" could have many meanings and not just Father Gill thinking he could "save" Peggy. The priest could be saying the egg was for the little one, if she was still in contact with him. Or 'in memory' of the little one. Perhaps he heard from other church members and already knew, or at least suspected, that the nephew is in fact Peggy's baby. I don't think we know for certain what he meant, but, by the look on Peggy's face, we know for certain what Peggy thinks he meant.

That confessional booth has got to be the shiz for getting ALL kinds of dirt on EVERYBODY. I don't know how sacredly most priests treat it, but he would still know all that shit, and he wouldn't be human if he didn't act like he knew it. Besides, I think he's being portrayed as an "unconventional" type from the start. And I get Peggy's sister, too. I have 3 of them.

There was some good character development going on but the pacing remains so sluggish and something is just off. I haven't felt that wow factor I got from almost every single episode last season. I wouldn't have minded seeing Don deliver his 'still born baby' pitch to AA. It would have been painful... but great TV. I see Bobbi is in the AMC preview for next week and I can only hope that this will be the end of a three episode arc. But it doesn't look like it. Unlike Midge and Rachel, I don't find her appealing at all... but I guess that's the point.

I guess there wasn't enough action in the premiere episode to satisfy the newbies who tuned in for the first time. Fortunately the show does very well among the affluent demographic, so it's not going anywhere.

I guess there wasn't enough action in the premiere episode to satisfy the newbies who tuned in for the first time. This is what pisses me off. Here's a show that's obviously too good for TV, and the average run-of-the-mill viewer can't even get behind it. TV for dumb people is what most people want. I mean look at the first page of this thread every day. The Hills, American Gladiators, Wipeout. . .the list goes on and on. Mad Men is even on most basic cable setups. I'm not going to get too attached. Everything that I like, that makes me think and entertains me gets ripped away from me. Nobody I know even watches the show, and I even have some semi-smart friends and family.

Instead she runs around behind Peggy's back and tries to make others see her in the same light that she does. That is a waste of time and effort and she will constantly be disappointed and angry with her futile attempts. You can't control other people's perceptions. All she is really succeeding in doing is making herself into more of a bitter bitch. Which I'm sure is affecting her parenting of Peggy's kid that she so generously took on.
