I really didn't care for the circus storyline AT ALL. It was slow and I kept waiting for the scenes to switch to the main characters.
Olive and Lily are terrific together, but Olive needs to return to the Pie Hole ASAP. Ned looked particularly dreamy tonight. His black coat ensemble when he was walking around the circus gets a thumbs up from me. Same goes for the white button down he was wearing at the Pie Hole. Not enough Digby in this season. Totally agree with Emerson on TMI when Ned was talking about "contraptions" re: being physical with Chuck. Dude, seriously. |

olive is this show. and emerson. and swoosie with her color-coordinated eye patches? hell yeah!
ned is getting really boring. honestly chuck too. how can they allow the non-lead character to become so much more interesting that the leads? i'd go with an ep about vivian at this point... step it up! |

^ It happens on a lot of comedic shows. The supporting characters are allowed to be quirkier because they aren't as central. Jack & Karen were always a
thousand times funnier than Will & Grace, Phoebe was always the most entertaining Friend, The Nazi puts Grey & McDreamy to shame and Edie's
desperation is always more entertaining than the other Housewives'. Olive & Emerson are just the next in that line.
I actually really liked last night - thought it was a big improvement on last week's episode. But I totally agree that Olive needs to get back to the Pie Hole - her interactions with the group were among the best parts of last season (especially Emerson). Loved Ned & Chuck "starting over," and Ned talking about the caterpillar/butterfly, replete with Emerson's "You did not just say that." I really think ABC should be selling stuffed animals of Digby and Pigby. |

The voiceover narration for Pigby was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I would take issue with people who are saying Olive eneds to go back ASAP. I'm enjoying her plot in the convent and don't need her to rush abck anytime
soon. It makes sense for her to be away and frankly as long as she has the Mother Superior and Pigby (and visits from Lily) I do't see the rush. Of course
she should (and obviously will) be back, sooner rather than later but there's no rush. And the 'sidekicks are more interesting than the elads' is
old. Like someoe else pointed by nature they get ot be broader and sillier because the leads have to be the more down to earth and rleatable. A show wiht just
them or centred on them does not work. There's a reaosn why this type of character is always the side-kick/neighbor/best friend. Small doses. Personally
for me, Olive and emmerson, while fantastic, hugely fun and crucial to teh dynamic, are not the reason I tune in. It's Ned & Chuck. They are the heart
and soul of this show and when they smile I smile. When they're heart-broken I'm heartbroken. THEY are the show.

Question: Have you got any scoop on Pushing Daisies and its future on ABC? I heard the premiere ratings weren't all that great. Should we be worried? -- Julia From TV Guide.com |

It dropped even more in the viewers, but maintained it's demo. It's almost at the very bottom of the Cancellation index at TV by the numbers. At least we'll have 22 episodes though. That's far more than Wonderfalls and getting closer to how many episodes of DLM we got. |

The talk about the secondary characters becoming just as important as the main twosome reminds me a lot (and the show itself does also, in its own quirky way)
of Northern Exposure. There were times in its prime years when I couldn't believe that such an odd and wonderful show ever got on the air of a major
network. I feel the same about Pushing Daisies.
When the writers and producers discover gold in their secondary characters they go with it, and blend it all into something better than the original "high concept": Northern Exposure: Doctor from NY goes to Alaska. PD: Guy can raise the dead, but only briefly, and brings back to life his childhood sweetheart. But in the course of the NX you got Chris (who wasn't even in the pilot) and his brother Bernard, the amazing Adam, the lives of Holling and his squeeze, and so on. In PD you have Ned - who is one of the most terrific supporting characters I've ever seen in a TV show, and Olive, and the Aunts, and Pigby for that matter. They're not more interesting than the leads. They're just part of a superbly well-rounded TV show. Hope it lasts as long as NX did - 6 years, right? |

The brilliance of that joke was that you totally saw it coming...but it was fucking hilarious anyway!
I had almost forgotten how good this show was the first season. There's just nothing like it! |

I love this show so much!! it just can't get cancelled.
I was more devastated by the lack of a complete season for this show than for LOST-- that is saying alot. I thought last night's eppy was awesome. Last week, not so much... though Ned was hot as usual. |

NX had two summer seasons. Solid enough ratings and critical appeal in the first mini-season that it was brought back for a second which through world of mouth
helped it return a few months later in the fall for its third season which is often considered its best and would go on to win the Emmy for Best Dramatic
Series. Had Rob Morrow never left Northern Exposure, it might have survived past its sixth season which floundered horribly whenever he was offscreen (and
dropped the ball completely after he left).
Maybe nursing shows like PD in the summer would be a good idea. Too bad the networks don't have enough viewers or money to pay for quality scripted content to air in the burn-off months. Let's face it, Daisies is dead. By some counts, it slipped below the 2.0 mendoza line in 18-49 this last week. Our only hope now is that ABC lets the producers complete a full batch (13 episodes) rather than shutting down production immediately. |

SurvivorSurvivorSurvivor wrote:While you're probably right, I think if the DVR ratings show a boost of say 30% or more in viewership it could help. Full season pickup seems like a pipedream though. The only thing they won in the ratings on the circus episode was they beat Top Model in total viewers (but tied in the demo). Everything else they were dead last. |

Interesting news.....ABC's wondering if they should accept $1 million from the Obama campaign and air his infomercial which is already scheduled to air on
CBS/NBC or if they should run Pushing Daisies during the slot and hope it gets a boost due to lack of competition. I think we might get a new episode on
October 29th if there's no 6th game of the World Series. With ABC/CBS/FOX all airing the Obama special, PD would only have to compete against America's
Next Top Model on the CW.

Hmm........that sounds like a really stupid idea to me and I'd be shocked if it worked. BUT, it's really nice to know that ABC is trying to think of
ways to help the show.

I think Obama should win a medal of honor for pre-empting Knight Rider. And I still think anyone who watches Knight Rider over Pushing Daises should choke on
their pork rinds and die.

The only issue I have with the story for this episode was that it was all exposition at the last minute. Yes, it was hilarious to see dead mimes and dead
clowns. That clown car bit was inspired. I laughed my ass off at that one. But we never really find out the reason for all of it until the end. Unionization.
The killer shows up in two scenes. One to introduce him and one for him to be caught and explain why he killed. It was a little weak.
But the circus themed gags were all still hilarious. Mimes, clowns, human cannonballs, donkeys, rude limericks. And Pigby was great. So was the diving behind the counter. Kudos to the stunt person for those. I still want to see Olive get back to the Pie Hole so hopefully it happens soon. |
