*Absorbing* someone's powers means *taking away* someone's powers. Definitely weakening them anyway.

Oh, and I don't buy that Hiro is slicing out the Heroes brains in a pre-emptive strike as it were. Defintely a bad dude.

I have the feeling that the black guy, besides erasing others' brain/power, he's like XMen's Mistique.

I don't necessarily buy that Peter was not stuck in time on the subway because he'd "absorbed" Hiro's powers. even if he had Hiro's powers, where was the preceding furrowed brow on Peter's part to activate them?
Either:

Why do people keep calling Peter's power empathy?
Empathy is the ability to read and affect other people's emotions. (See: Counselor Troi in Star Trek: TNG or Teen Titans' Raven) I really haven't seen Peter display any empathic abilities, other than being a sensitive guy. |

In the spiritualist world an Empath is one who is so in tuned with another's feelings that he takes them on himself. Many who are empaths take on careers in the medical field or other service fields so that they can help others & feel a sense of accomplishment. Sometimes they get so involved that they become drained or "burnt out" quite easily. It can mess with the energies surrounding them when they are so acutely tuned in to sickness & depression.
In nursing school, the first thing we learned was to empathize not sympathize. It means we can give better care to our patients. But it also means we can easily become debilitated ourselves. Link for more info on Empaths |

I love it that this show doesn't mince anything and moves at light speed compared to Lost. BTW, HRG guy sure has a knack for being at the right place at the right time with mind wiping guy. He doesn't even wake up the lovers. How is that? does he have a *power*, too???

And I've never seen Raven or Counselor Troi absorb other people's powers with their empathy!
Although, now that I think about it, Phoebe in Charmed had some hokey explanation about her absorbing other people's powers when she had her empathy, but I remember that idea being routinely panned too. |

I think Peter's powers are a happy blend of Troi's empathic abilities and Rogues power absorbing abilities.

Peter Seems to be more like Synch for Generation X
Wikipedia Synch's mutant power allows him to duplicate the powers of any mutant in his vicinity, essentially becoming in "synch" with that mutant (or more specifically, his or her mutagenic aura). Synch had the most mastery of his mutant abilities than any of his Generation X peers, often displaying more control over whatever mutant's powers he copied than that mutant. For example, in his debut issue he utilized Jubilee's pyrotechnic abilities in ways she never thought possible by blowing up an entire sector of the Phalanx (X-Men Vol. 1, No. 36, Pg. 23, September 1994). By "synching" with Jubilee, Everett simply gazed at the beings and was able to "detonate their very matter on a sub-atomic level," as so technically explained by Emma Frost. He was also able to utilize Chamber's powers to fly, something Chamber was never able to do. It had been theorized that, with practice, Synch would have been able to permanently retain powers and abilities he acquired in this manner. |

The preview showed one thing that was interesting...
When HRG approaches Isaac for help, the pixie neighbour girl is standing behind him. Looks like she's been working for him all along. |
