People were talking about Abortions before and I ran into a clip of some girl talking about it, she won awards and everything for her stance. |

Today they were discussing the infamous NY Post cartoon. Barbara remarked that because the chimp in the cartoon was a "black monkey" that this was
the reason why some are claiming it is racist. She said this a couple of times, until Sherri (and I always have to shake my head when she's the voice of
reason) said that the actual color of the monkey wouldn't have mattered. Honestly, you would be hard pressed to find a luckier hack in show business other
than say, Larry King. Neither of these people ever have a clue what the fuck they're talking about and they just never "get it." Barbara in
particular is an embarrassment, because she has worked under the guise of being a "journalist." She needs to be put on the shelf.

What was Elisabeth's take on the cartoon? |

Actually, she thought it was offensive and said there should be a way to make people take more responsibility for inflammatory things they publish, or
something of that nature. Whoopi and Joy just said it was something you have to deal with when you have a free society.

Nothing to add, just wanted to get in on the seaguy/AMT lovefest.
I always try to watch the View because I know people love it. I can't do it. They were talking to Laurence Fishburne today (who I love, and who is way too smart to go on that show), and he was saying some very intelligent things about race/gender/sexuality and other differences in America and Barbara Walters was staring at the floor like she could see Jesus' face in the carpet. |

I see you already got the heads up on Joy and Ann Coulter tonight on Larry King - Joy says she can be objective during her interviews
also, Barbara not understanding the cartoon was pathetic..just retire and go away you clueless old bat |

I just read this at perezhilton.com
John McCain did not appreciate his visit to The View last year, despite Hasselbitch's undying devotion. Barbara Walters encountered the Senator at a recent dinner in Washington, D.C. Babs recounts, "When we walked out and I saw him I said, 'Senator, so nice to see you. I hope you'll come on The View again.' And he looked at me and said, 'Not anytime soon.'" We're sure he meant to say, "Not on your life, bitch," but it probably would have made Barbara explode and that would have ruined the dinner for everyone. Rumor has it Elizabitch cried herself to sleep upon hearing the news |

I don't like it when Joy says that it's okay for such racist things to be published just because it's free speech. In Canada we have something
called Incitement of hatred, which basically means you have free speech except when it incites hatred towards a group of people that may or may not be a
minority group (although it usually is). Joy gave an example of what goes on in Germany when people are caught in neo-nazi protests or who have nazi
paraphanelia. I don't think she gets that in order to gear society away from racism or anti-Semitism, or homophobia, or sexism, you have to stop condoning
it, just because it falls under the disguise of free speech. This cartoonist is supposed to be an equal opportunist which is bullshit if you ask me. This is a
disguise to say if you are gay or black or Jewish then I have the right to belittle you and insult you for being born the way you are.

I understand what you are saying, Burnettfollower, but in the US our remedy is to not buy the Post, or to cancel our subscriptions, or to write an opposing viewpoint in a letter to the editor. The Post, in turn, must deal with the consequences. I'd rather have those options than live in a society where we are forbidden to say or express what we feel. |

My main problem with the cartoon is that it's just not good. It makes little sense and it isn't funny. Not much talent in the cartoonist

It made zero sense. It was blatant racism IMO.

And supposing it wasn't racist, it was at the very least, incredibly stupid. What cartoonist doesn't know that associating a black person with an ape or moneky is taboo due to the history of how blacks have been depicted in film and art? What a trainwreck. |

Well to be honest it didn't make ZERO sense. This week a monkey was killed because it mauled a woman....
just sayin.... |

In a truly free society, the only acceptable censorship is self-censorship. Besides, why empower the words of an idiot by letting those words adversely affect you. Either ignore the speech or convince the speaker to change. |
