It's that fucking simple.

When you marry, whether it be a gay marraige, inter-racial marraige, or mixed religion marraige, no religion marraige, or a heterosexual marraige, you are not affecting anyone else against their will.

People are going to hate gays regardless (the same way people will hate racial minorities or women/men regardless). We don't know when next time will be, so waiting for then won't work. Also, we're really not trying to change people's minds. Most people are going to feel the way they feel. What we're trying to do is show that it really shouldn't matter what you believe, but what gets done. It's a matter of rights, not being liked/hated.

It is very easy for groups of people, like the gays, to point their fingers at politicians, because they are public figures and they do have to be held accountable for their actions. When it comes to the voters, though, you can't point fingers at any one person, all you can do is generalize them, and say they are bigots or prejudiced. You can't isolate one particular person and make them be responsible for their actions. This is how politicians prove their cowardness.

I was raised Catholic & Mormon, two of the most uptight & judgmental religions around, and yet I outgrew the notion of homosexuality or other "differences" in people is a big bad scary & sinful thing that we must protect ourselves from. As a child, I didn't understand that and thought it was "bad" among so many other things that children are scared into believing. As I got into my teens and older and developed a reasoning mind of my own, I quickly saw how wrong it was for me to judge others and not want to understand them and love them for who they are. I also was raised in an abusive family and I have NEVER raised a hand to anyone in my life and have NEVER believed that violence is acceptable in ANY circumstance. A huge problem in this world is that people are too quick to blame their actions on how they were raised or what bad circumstances they lived through. Get over it and move on. As an adult, you are responsible for YOUR OWN actions and you know right from wrong. If you choose to be an ignorant jerk, it is all on you and you have no one to blame but yourself. If everyone would live by the "Golden Rule," which is supposed to be what Christians and other people of faith claim to live by -- "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" -- the world would be a much happier place.

Loved the movie and I'm sure I'll really love the musical. I didn't think Sir Elton looked all that bad . . . unfortunately for me, though, all I ever seem to focus on is the fat roll around Joy's neck. She needs to start wearing turtlenecks or chokers or get a little localized lipo. I'm ashamed of myself to keep focusing on it, but it screams out at me like that blabbering stain in that commercial.

It will be less than 50 years time, but I do agree with you people will look back and wonder what Californian's were thinking. To me it is like looking back on Loving versus Virginia. I live in Northern California where 85% of the voters voted No on H8te. It disgusts me that this is even an issue. I loved Keith Olbermanns commentary last night, this is a civil rights issue and people should be allowed to marry regardless of sexual orientation. I think that the Supreme Court will step in and block this, and Gay marriages will be legal once again.

If people don't push now, what makes us think anything will change the next time this issue comes up (either in California or elsewhere)? If people just accept it now, we'll be expected to accept it later. And, again, we're not debating what people think. They can think whatever the hell they want. As for growing up, look at what Keith Olberman said. Obama's parents couldn't be married at one point. People grew up that "black people were evil." That changed. Why shouldn't this?
