Did you notice the 9XX reference? North Jersey.
I had to stop the show and explain to my 703 wife what that meant.
I'm originally 516, too, was a 703, then a 919, now an 804.

I am so happy that this show is back. I loved the crooked floor and area code bits. Ratings were very good for the premiere episode at 9 million viewers.

I think the "bump" girl is a f.ake-out. I will be surprised if it is her. I think the only thing we saw of the mother was her yellow umbrella. The
yellow umbrella will be the key to them getting together. I'm glad this show is back. Robin was really funny last night. I like how she never lets
anyone get too cheesey or stupid. Barny's "I'm awesome" at the end was hilarious.

Maybe the bump girl stole his cell phone.
I'm not generally a fan of laugh tracks, especially ones so obviously edited in and not live as it is in HIMYM (though there are definitely shows where the laugh edit is much more obvious), but with the style and the pace of the show as it is now I don't think would work without it. There's a certain rhythm to a show with a laugh track that goes joke pause joke pause that doesn't really work without the laughter. I watched the premiere of the new Fox show Unhitched and I actually came away thinking it needed a laugh track because it was setting up jokes like a traditional sitcom and every joke landed with a thud because they were still leaving a beat after punchlines. Compare it to a show like Arrested Development where not only would a laugh track sound wrong, there's just no room in the rhythm of the show to insert any laughs. |

WAYYYYYY less funny than the promos hyped it up to be. The only saving grace is that I LOVE Sarah Chalke, and Britney was hardly shown at all.
I knew from the minute Barney suggested the mustache fetish that it was just a joke. But, I'd like it if someone with no time on their hands (and seeing as I don't have season 2, so I can't do it myself, hahaha) could go back and see if that "I bet I can make Ted grow a mustache" line was in a previous episode or if it was just inserted to make us laugh. Would make it that much better if it was thrown in there randomly previously. |

Interesting how they set up the sessions by Ted getting rid of that tattoo that he received when he was drunk. The speed dating was cute. Not that funny of an episode but it was still solid. For me, this show is never that bad. Its usually either really funny or its just a solid episode. |

Agreeance on the underwhelming criticism. Not a strong ep. Too bad -- they blew a chance to reel in new viewers. Britney was kind of an afterthought, and
the final sequence with Barney made no sense.
I don't recall the mustache bet, but it felt like something they'd planted earlier. HIMYM's trademark is being good on things like that, so I bet it was. Speaking of continuity, didja notice who made a point of syaing she'd been out on St. Patrick's Day? And presumably might have left behind a yellow umbrella? |

I thought they should have focused more of it on Britney because the scenes she were in were cute, I thought. She played the cute/dorky type well.
They advertised it like the entire episode would be about her. But then again, it's Britney Spears. Of course that's how they advertised it. |

I'm glad they didn't focus on her. I admit that even as a HARDCORE fan of HIMYM, I was looking for more scenes with Britney in them. Just the fact
that she was there drew my attention away from everything else that happened and made me want to see what happened with her.
BTW, because Sarah Chalke is my future wife, and because Britney wasn't bad, and because Scrubs will be ending next season at the most, I am VERY glad they didn't tie this episode up like some others. It gives both of them some room to come back in the future quite easily. |

So is Sarah Chalke the mother?? Or one of the mother's friends?
I guess I'm in the minority that I loved the episode. The quick date was sooooo cute. Yes the whole thing was ridiculously contrived, but everything about this show is ridiculously contrived, from the concept to pretty much every plot of every episode. Britney didn't really add anything though |

I thought Britney did a good job. Ted and Sarah Chalke look right together. They had good chemistry. I hope she ends up being the mother and not Alicia
Silverstone which just seems like a mismatch.

Sarah is the Mother. As soon as she said "St. Patrick's Day party", I knew she was it.
Now the only question is, how long are the creators going to draaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag it out??? |

I like the idea of her being friends with the Mother, though. I enjoyed the episode, but I agree it wasn't their strongest outing. |
