Marcus -- It took a bit to get there, but when he sang his Oompa Loompa song to Britney, I was cracking up. His set was creative and nice to see he can do more than impressions. Then he killed with that impression of Christopher Walken threatening to stab fatty in the face with a hot poker if they didn't send Marcus through. Loved it & glad he made it to the finals. Esther -- I think she was pretty good and definitely one of the better women comics this season, so a good choice to put through. A couple of my best friends are Korean and I like how she walks that fine line of making fun of her race, but not too obvious and gimicky. Koreans do love to make fun of themselves. Papa CJ -- Glad he made it. His set was hot & cold for me. Some repeat jokes, but they were still funny and approrpriate to keep the flow of his set going. He's different and it keeps things interesting. Hope he has a lot more material and I'm looking forward to seeing more. Louis -- I was worried he wasn't going to make it when they left him to last. He was my second favorite after Marcus. It would have been a crime not to put him onto the finals. But after the ridiculously lames choices last week, I was worried. These four will make the show for me . . . . that and YAY FOR BRINGING BACK THE HOUSE!!!! There is hope for this season yet.

I LOVED - the 1st girl that went maybe named Eliza that immitated commercials for pizza and Dentyne Ice Gum. Her other jokes worked for me as well. - Dan Cummings (the 2st guy that went w/ longer hair) - his whole set worked for me - Marcus - The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory joke fell way flat but I love his impressions and he built up enough good repor w/ me to want to see him advance. - Stone & Stone - I can't help it..they are funny. I HATED -That girl fromWI w/ the baby voice. I can not stand her voice. It's impossible for me to sit and listen to but I attempted and luckily her jokes were shit so I cut out based on that rather than just her voice this time. I heard up to the cookie/lard joke which sucked and switched the channel. - Papa CJ - His whole act is about the same thing (Indians taking American jobs) every single time and I hate the way he nods his head & smiles constantly as he talks. The delivery drives me up the wall. - The guy that did that World War 2 recreation. OMG was that painful to watch. Bombed. No one else stood out to me as good or bad....just a bunch of meh. So ...now ruin my day..which of those I actually liked made it? ..and which shitty ones did as well?

Sean was the guy who did a lame minute of "What Happens in Vegas stays in Vegas" and then 2 minutes of a song about porn.

It wasn't funny, the audience was barely laughing and he sucked. The black guy was funny though so good for him.

Only the guy with the yellow shirt who did the gym jokes and the guy from new york with spikey hair deserved to make it. The other 3 completely sucked. I havn't even laughed at any of Ron G.'s three sets. On the 2nd show, the cello player was awesome, and I thought everybody at least deserved it some what (meaning they all made me laugh) except the guy who sung the porno song and the charley and the choclate factory. Oh well I guess 7 out of 12 good ones are better than the last couple seasons.

If you need to explain the joke to the audience (which he did, and did, and did), it's NOT FUNNY! OTOH, loved Marcus. This show is not condusive to jokes requiring a longer set-up, which I think is the kind of comic he is. Oddly, he reminds me of Eddie Izzard in his story-telling and more subtle jokes. Glad he made it. He also has the impressions nailed: voice, face, body, all correct. It'll be fun to see more of all he has to offer, although I don't think this is the best vehicle for him. However, I'd pay money to see him, which I can't say for any of the others yet.

I can't stand them. I don't mind Frank Caliendo, but before I saw his stand up, I saw him on Mad TV. And, he took too long to set the joke up. I agree that it might not be as conducive to this competition, but knowing they only get 3 minutes, I just want to be entertained that whole time.

These are some of her actual punchlines: "I said Ching Chong what mom?" "Can I see your rice-ense and legislation prease?" "Even we can't tell us apart." "You couldn't tell we were sleeping." Some comics making clever, and funny, observations about race. Others simply repeat stereotypes about their own race. If you picked a random high school kid and gave him one hour to write jokes about Asians using all the stereotypes he could think of, he would come up with something like Esther Ku's set. Not only that, this shit has been done thousands of times before. Remember on Seinfeld, when Jerry's dentist converts to Judaism so he can tell jokes about Jews? Someone asks Jerry if he's offended as a Jew. He responds, "No, I'm offended as a comedian." If you go to any open mic on the east or west coast you will see some hacky Asian newbie doing the same bits. If you've made it past the seventh grade, you've heard her jokes.

Most jokes have been heard before; just some are delivered in different ways. Look at all the fat comics, black comics, gay comics, etc.

I can't believe a lot of you liked Esther. I thought she sucked the first I saw her and she didn't change my opinion tonight. I thought she was absolutely horrible. Didn't laugh once. But I had already prepared myself for her getting through. She's cute and sort of got that naughty school girl thing going on so i knew she'd make it. I was just sort of surprised and pissed that the canadian guy and Papa CJ made it through. Both of them sucked. I was hoping for Pete Lee, Pepitone, and the guy that looks like Michael McDonald to make it through. But since I liked them I should have known they wouldn't make it through. I really should stop watching these beginning episodes. They just end up pissing me off when they keep bad comics over funny ones.

Posts: 396 (07/04/08 11:16 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts Message Connection Block Invite	heh. ok. because "once you've gone sofa, you never... something that rhymes with sofa" but srsly, here is how this is going to play out (assuming that we are beyond the producers fucking with this show anymore, and assuming the audience gets to choose the "i'm funnier than" winner each week as they have in the past...) the final two are going to be marcus and louis. louis because he is the only pure comedian in this bunch, and marcus because (and pjadedd and i normally agree on everything, but) his ability to do a christopher walken or whatever in a 3 minutes challenge will sway any audience to vote his way. dude would win those challenges because he can pull off a nicholson/whatever at the right moment. but... marcus and louis will never face those challenges. because the remaining losers will pick anybody else other than marcus or louis to go against in the "i am funnier than..." we will not see the best of marcus or louis until the end. (but come to think of it, wouldn't "marcus and louis" be a great name for a comedy team?) who will ultimately win? i'm going with louis. dude is funny, dude is a true comedian, and he hasn't shown us his best shit yet. sofa says...
