^Yes,if there were 16 member casts, no exile island and not editing one person or a certain amount of people to be the "stars" of the show while the rest are background characters(this is the biggest problem imo)

Quote: I don't get your argument. Aren't actors wannabe the ones who will apply to the show due to the exposure this show can give them? How many recruits this season are actor/model wannabe? Before SEG came calling, these recruits didn't even think of applying for the show. They were just going about their own jobs. How are they actors/model wannabe? This is what Yau-Man wrote in another forum Quote: |

Quote:Exactly. I really like the string of winners we had lately, but it's getting annoying to have the winner pointed out to us 5 minutes into the premiere. Having hardcore Survivor fans on the show would shake things up a little. They'd probably wouldn't let some golden boy waltz to the end. We'd probably end up with an undeserving winner, but it would be a small price to pay. Palau, Cook Islands and Fiji all had a 90 to 99% recruited cast and they all ended bascially with the same winner. Coincidence? |

Just think. Candice, the amazing applicant, completely changed the game, but MB ruined the entire Rarotonga tribe's game just so the "underdogs" would win. And oh what a horrible season that was.

Candice winning would've made Cook Islands much more bearable. I wanted an Adam, Becky and Candice final three to show the racial twist as an utter failure.

I disagree with the premise that if some of the recruits are interesting that it is ok to have a season where 90% of the contestants were recruited.
I still think that everyone on the show should have submitted an application and gottten through the process on his or her own merits and not because SEG is looking for a 45 year oldish, white laborer/50 year oldish black woman. SEG is playing to the audience....that is fine in scripted TV - but isn't Survivor suppose to be 16 total strangers stuck on an island fending for themselves..... not 16 people SEG casted because SEG knows what we want better then ourselves. Yes, some of the recruits are good players, but honestly, out of 40,000 applications SEG can't find 16 interesting players???? I think it is out of laziness at this point, it is easier to create a program, decide what the "story line" will be then to take the time to set it up and let the players make it happen. |

^I completly agree about how SEG shoves it creates a "story" and then shoves it down our throats through highlighting certain players and ignoring others. For the life of me I don't understand why they think that will draw in more viewers. On Survivor borneo EVERYONE had at least one good moment and while you might say "its because noone was boring" I disagree. Bobby has proven that hes hugely entertaining and smart but because he didnt fit the story of how Cirie learned to catch a fish, he was ignored. on another hand, applicants I heard DO mostly suck. It doesnt matter to me, 16 applicants, 16 recruits or a mix, just be sure their interesting

In reading further on that other "something awful" website, Yauman indicates that Survivor will be no more after S16.
So, for all the complaints listed above, we just won't have to worry about it anymore after two more seasons. I just wonder if that last season will, in fact, be an ASS? |

Could you link that for us? I hope that Survivor China will bring it back. Hopefully theres a Luke Skywalker type that will destroy the "death star" of SEGs and CBS' incompetency/lazieness. JOIN THE REBELLION AGAINST THE EMPIRE!

yau-man gave his opinion that survivor would be canceled after season 16, not that it was for sure.

Dr. Will,
His comment is in this thread link below, however, I cannot remember exactly which page it was on. I think it was after page 24. He was answering another person's question regarding his recruitment versus applying for the show. He basically was telling the dude that he probably wouldn't get his chance to be on Survivor because he thinks Survivor is going to go out before the ratings/viewership goes down too low. Also, I would certainly try to get the page number for you, but my company has the "somethingawful" website blocked for some reason. If you don't find it, I can try to find it for you when I get home today. forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=2475395&perpage=40&pagenumber=24 |

I think the hatred of recruits also has to do with a hatred of younger people. Many people over 40 on this show have been interesting and/or good players, but so have many younger people, but when the latter are good players, alot of the them get trashed on. For example, Aras imo is one of the better stratgists the game has seen, but he got edited like a dummy, and you guys(and casual viewers) ate it up. Same goes for Boston Rob. He may be obnoxius to some, but hes a great player, the juries job is ONLY vote for the better player

Wasn't Rudy technically a recruit since he got bumped to the top of the list by Mark Burnett for participating in Eco Challange?

WTF is Yau-Man doing on the Something Awful boards? I find it difficult to believe that he's a regular reader there and paid the $10 bucks you have to pay to be able to post

Well, as of now, only 3 of the S15 China players have been casted.
Looks like MB is in for a busy 3 weeks hitting up all the L.A. clubs and bars looking for my_space trash. |

Quote:Then what was the story with Earl? Didn't Jeff say at the Reunion that they pretty much found him at the last minute after casting had been completed? Even if what Yau Man says is true, they've still got a HUGE head start over people who sent in a tape. Recruits skip the prelim interview and go straight to the LA finals. fsmdud, how do you know only 3 contestants have been cast? |

I would imagine most of the people applying for Survivor, Amazing Race, etc. are the geek crowd. They're like comic book geeks, Star Trek geeks, Rocky Horror geeks. They're too anxious and desperate to get on the show. It would be a disaster.
I don't like when they call modeling agencies to book vapid pretty people to fill up the show, but recruiting from a broad spectrum of people doesn't bother me. This past season wasn't model/actor heavy at all, and it turned out to be a great season. I always find it odd that there's so much bitching and moaning about models and actors, but those are the ones (and the seasons) everyone ohhs and ahhs over no end. |
