I'm pretty sure it was Sawyer. Jack wouldn't consider him friend or family but still feel connected to him enough to show up. And Sawyer didn't really have anyone else in his life. It would also explain why he would call Kate, cuz of Kate's relationship with him...and since Jack cares about her he'd want to be there for her if she was hurting.

I am saying that it was Ben's funeral... for THREE main reasons.
First... Jack said the person was neither family nor a friend. Any of the Losties (no matter what they had been through) would have had enough of a connection with Jack to where he would consider them even somewhat of a friend. Ben fits the description perfectly Second... Jack feels guilty because he didn't believe Ben when Ben said that leaving the island would have terrible consequences. Jack feels as though the consequences of leavi g the island are his fault and he needed closer.... from Ben and the island itself. Third and most importantly... Ben really knew no one outside of the island. He went there when he was a child and grew up on the island. He wouldn't know anyone in the states well enough to have anyone even come to his funeral... and it seems as though his parents were his only family and they are dead. His "daughter"? Even if she got off the island do you really think she would give a shit he was dead after everything he did??? |

Everyone who says it is Locke's funeral are assuming Locke left the Island with all the Losties. I'm betting he is still on the Island after the rescue. Remember, he did say that Jack wasn't supposed to let the rescue happen.
Jack,in the future, becomes obsessed with getting back to the Island, but who is there? Maybe the funeral was for Ben, or Michael, but I don't think it was for Locke or Sawyer. Maybe Richard? Who knows? |

I say Sawyer, Jack was hoping Kate would show there, and he was neither friend nor family...
Locke is still on the island. |

All along I thought Sawyer, but the last scene changed my mind. All the Lost people are bound together by their experience and I can't see her being so cold about Sawyer dying. Also, Kate mentions that she has to get back to "him" -who I'm thinking is Sawyer.
Even though Jack loves Kate, he's damaged goods and she knows it. They would never have a relationship so far down the road. The only reason Kate wouldn't show up for Sawyer's funeral is if she is still in hiding, which is a possibility. The "Why would I?" remark could be because Jack should know that she'd be caught if she went to the funeral and not anything against Sawyer. Also, I think Sawyer's old girlfriend would show up with their daughter. I'm going with Ben, because I can see him dying poor and alone, possibly committing suicide because he can't handle life in civilization. That is why Jack feels a connection - both suicidal after leaving the island. |

If it really begins with a J than it's John Locke or James Ford. If it's Ben, then we're missing the beginning.

Richard Lanham is a real life economist that wrote about commercial television, unless this is some sort of Lost spoof - I noticed the author is named Mittell.

FUNERAL | ||
|
Well, I do not think it's Hurley --- he's too likeable and too big for that casket. I also don't think it's Rose. They appear to have come from money and, once again, she's too likeable to have no one show up. I don't think it would be Ben --- I don't believe Jack would cry over him. I also don't think it's Sayid, Sun, her hubby, Claire, etc... Nor do I think it's Sawyer. In the last flashforward where Jack and Kate are talking, she says she has to get back because "he'd" be wondering where she was at. I think that "he" is Sawyer. So, it could be Juliet or Michael in that casket. I believe it's more like Michael because of the area they were in --- African American neighborhood --- and the fact that no one showed up. Michael was probably not liked much since he left the island and looks like from this point that he didn't return with help.

I thought it was Locke.
Kate being snarky about going would make sense. Locke tried just in that brief glimpse alone to again sabatoge their leaving; who knows what else he may try to do before they actually get rescued. Jack's reaction makes sense because he always carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Locke was yelling at him that Jack isn't supposed to do this and there were all sorts of *warning* that by contacting the outside world it would do something negative. Locke obviously could foresee this. If Locke ends up dying as a result of this and he *pleaded* with Jack to not do this, Jack would feel extremely guilty that he is responsible for Locke's death. I don't think he'd feel that strongly over Ben if he died. Locke has nobody. No family, no nothing. He also cut himself off from the Losties; so none of them coming to his funeral is possible. Some people think that Locke wouldn't leave the island so it couldn't be him but I think if they got rescued, Locke would almost have to leave the island. Locke this whole time is not only preventing himself from leaving but everyone else also. If he could stay with everyone else being rescued, then why not let everyone get rescued and he just say "have a good life" I'm staying. There is obviously a reason why he can't allow anyone to come to the island and therefore no one can leave it either; maybe if the island is inhabitated by people that aren't part of this whole big design it would lose it's "power" or whatever so I think his leaving the island to be in Jack's "forwardstory" is plausible despite his wanting to stay on the island. |

I think that's due to the folding.
That looks like an E after the J, though. |

I've decided it is Jacob. And I think next season is going to take place back in civilization and the flashbacks will be focusing on the island.

What is Sawyer's last name? It better not be Sawyer.
I think it is Locke and nobody went because everyone from the crash hated him for not letting them get rescued. First with the sub then with the helicopters (in Desmond's vision). I don't do spoilers, so this is just what I think. ;) |
