I think Eko was on his way to the states to ditch the drugs. I'm geographically challenged so someone help me out.. would it make sense to fly from Nigeria to Australia THEN to the states to drop off dope?

Mr. Eko: It is not my normal business, Yemi. We are moving the drugs out of Nigeria so that they cannot be used by our people. And the money... you'll have all the money to buy your vaccine. God has given us this opportunity. We should not turn our back on it.

No, flying like that would make no sense whatsoever, IMO.

Weren't the drugs already out of the country on the little plane that crashed on the island?
Ralph - we know Walt was saying "don't push the button" in reverse, but I'll add your question about why he appeared soaking wet. |

There are two cases of backwards Walt talk. Also Sawyer's conversation with Bernards as heard by Jin was also reversed.
From lost.cubit.net Walt's first reverse speech Walt's second reverse speech Sawyer and Bernard |

Recrap show reminded me of an old question:
Desmond got out of bed, put on music, had breakfast, exercised, showered, and took his injection. Suddenly he's startled into defensive action by an explosion. Next thing you know Locke, Kate and Jack are confronting him in the hatch. Why does Desmond look unshaven and greasy ? |

What's with the shower anyhow?
|
Watching the recrap shows is always interesting - we get to see what the show's writers thought was important enough to summarize.
The thing that struck me tonight, beyond what we would expect to see in a recap, was the number of times the hatch shower was mentioned. We got the Kate/Jack and Jack/Locke shower scenes. Sawyer got put in the shower to bring his temp down. Kate approaches Jack in the jungle and asks to use the shower. None of this stuff is important in and of itself - why keep focusing on it? They just as easily could have shown other vignettes of hatch life: Hurley/Libby using the washing machine, the record album choices, etc. which makes me wonder why the shower needs to be mentioned repeatedly. So is it significant and why? |

How can Dharma make ranch dressing that lasts seven years?
Oh...spoilerish spec from before, Felicia said: Quote: I posted a theory a couple of weeks back that if Jack's Dad was indeed working for Dharma, then he could have been messing with Jack's mind from the cradle, 'programming' him to be...what? A leader with a Type A personality? |

Re: Unanswered Questions

RomCen - Indeed you did. I remember that now. With this show, anything is possible. But what was he programming him for exactly? Jack is too logical, too damn stubborn to follow. He's just about the last guy who could be controlled by the Others. (unless they pulled a whammy on him like Michael/Walt using Kate maybe?)
Are you thinking Christian was molding him to be part of Dharma? Quote: BJ - Eko was supposed to be on the drug plane. In The 23rd Psalm, he was getting ready to take off with the runners. His brother showed up begging him not to go. Yemi was then shot by one of the soldiers and was pulled into the plane. Gold Tooth kicked Eko out. (you guys probably know all this) Drug plane crashed on the island. No idea how much time passed between that flashback and flight 815 crashing on the same island. There is a gap there. We still don't know what Eko did after he was left behind or why he ended up in Australia. Maybe we'll find out in his next episode. eta - Excuse my tard moment. In my post at the top of the page, I was answering why Eko was originally planning to go to the states. I think everyone already knew the answer to that. Sorry. |

Fron a transcript of Episode 1-19: Deus Ex Machina:
Quote: I'm looking forward to more of Eko's backstory. He, Locke and sawyer have the backgrounds that most intrigue me (so far). Learning why Eko was in Australia is one of the questions I'm eager to learn about. |

Okay, I've updated.
I moved a few questions into a Hatch section. I also added a question about the props in the hatch. There have been changes - the stereo equipment and lamp have changed. Also the table have moved around. There were also two distinct countdown clocks shown. |

There's a site that has a comprehensive photo-comparison of the various hatch shots. Takes a long time for page to open because it's so graphic intense. Scroll down to 2nd half of page for the Hatch comparison photos.

How about some of the basic ones:
- What do the numbers mean? - Who/What grabbed the pilot from the plane? - What's up with the pictures in the smoke? - Does Hurley really have bad luck, or is it something else? - What is Widmore? - Is there really a virus on the island? If so, what is it? - What is the purpose of the Others? - Is Jack's dad dead? - How did the polar bear/horse show up? - What's up with the magnetism in the hatch? - What really happens when the counter runs down, I mean really runs down, and no one enters the numbers? - What do the hieroglyphics mean? And why would anyone put heiroglyphics on a counter? - What is the electro-magnetic sound when the timer almost runs out? - Why would someone draw on a hatch door in black-light pen, instead of on a piece of paper they could easily hide? And where did they get the black-light pens? - What's the "?"? - Can the computer really communicate to other computers? - Did Walt really talk to his dad in the computer, or was it his imagination? - Where does all the clean water/power come from? - Where does that massive power line that goes out to sea end up? - What's up with the 50's radio station that Hurley and Sayid picked up (and didn't tell anyone about, surprise)? - What happened to the rest of the world? - What's up with all the whispers? - Where are all the dead bodies from the rest of the plane? And there are dozens more, but I'll stop for now... |

Re: Unanswered Questions

AbMagFab, I have added some of your questions. Many were repeats or rewordings of questions we already have. I purposely left out some of the more detailed questions (like what is the sound when the counter runs down) or this list would be infinite!
I thought the heiroglyphics on the counter were symbols representing the Dharma stations. |

Speculation with spoiler whiff ahead...just sayin'
Felicia said: Quote: That's very possible. And perhaps, because Jack DOES have such a stubborn personality, they decided he'd make a better lab rat than lab technician. Or maybe he was indeed prepped to be a leader/healer. Think about it, in many primitive tribes, the leader is often a shaman who has knowledge the rest of them lack. He not only heals, but leads or at the very least, has a strong say in what the tribe does.. Jack could be the Losties Shaman! So if that were true, perhaps Dharma is somehow testing how humans build communities on a large, then each Lostie would have a tribal role to fullfill. You'd have your hunters and gatherers. Tribal elders or council...etc. Tribes also tend to come into conflict with other Tribes. So perhaps it's more about testing human reactions on a grander scale. The Others could just be another 'tribe' who's been on the island longer than the Losties giving them the initial advantage. They're the 'home team'. BUT...if their numbers are indeed much smaller, as Michael say in that preview, the advantage could shift, giving Dharma yet another part of community developement and human reactions to explore. Man...I just need to stop thinking about this show... |

I am wondering if the focus on the showers has something to do with cleanliness as a metaphor...cleanliness=faithfulness, wanting to obtain it or somesuch. Or maybe I am overanalyzing... ;)
What is Walt's second backward thing-something about "I am coming"....? |
I thought the heiroglyphics on the counter were symbols representing the Dharma stations.
I'm pretty sure they are different. There were a bunch of threads in other places at the time that translated them to mean "Death" or "You will Die" or something like that, but they were all inconclusive. At a minimum, they weren't the Dharma logos, at least that's what I last read. I could certainly be wrong. |
