So I'll leave the question there for the time being. Will, I guess I am still expecting more from Claire's backstory. Maybe the question should really be "Why did the psychic tell Claire she must raise the baby herself?"

Because the show can only afford one art director who does it all himself? No, seriously. I doubt it was intended to look similar but since the same person did it all it just worked out that way. If you go back & look at Michael's art work on his apartment wall back in Special when Walt was a baby, it looks the same as well.

He went to find the partner of the guy in the mental hospital who gave him the numbers in the first place. Apparently the two of them worked in some sort of listening post in The Pacific while being in the service. Over the airwaves they heard those numbers being transmitted over and over, but never found the source of the transmission. Hurley found the guys widow in the outback where they lived. She told him more about them using the numbers. They too had bad luck after using them...but the widow denied it had anything to do with the numbers. :)Peggy
