Oh, and does anyone else feel, in a way, personally insulted by the idiots who just don't get this movie? They're making me so MAD. It just makes me think that it should only be allowed to be viewed by Losties. Or at the least, Alias fans.

OK!!! SPOILERS!!!!
Ive been doing some research and apparently you find out through one of these affiliated cloverfield websites that there was a failure with a satellite in orbit and THIS is what crashes down into the ocean at the end. Not a jet ski, not a monster, a satellite. This event is directly linked to what awakes the monster.............which was in the sea the entire time and was awoken by the government trying to recover the satellite. Its clearly in the last scene. How the monster came to BE, as in the question of if its growth was affected by chemicals by the government etc...is not explained but the reason it was Awoken has been uncovered with these viral websites for a while now. Also in the end someone states "its still alive" Hope this is helpfull |

For as much of a genius as J.J. is, what I love about his work is that he allows you to use your imagination and draw your own conclusions (not to mention it's a great marketing dynamic). People who need to see the "happy ending" aren't intelligent and creative enough to figure that out. |

Possible SPOILERS THROUGHOUT
OK!!! SPOILERS!!!!I read that as well. I followed the online stuff and it was quite interesting. The thing about it being a satellite is that the only people that would make that connection are the relatively small group who followed the online campaign. Anybody else that saw it would just assume it's the monster falling from space. I did not see it happen and the clips I've seen online don't look like a splash to me...it looks more constant, like the wake of a boat or a jet ski. I'm not saying it didn't happen though...I just need to see it for myself. As for the sound bite at the end, I still don't hear "help me". I hear "It's still alive" when it's reversed though. Anybody have any thoughts on the date on the camera being May 23rd or whatever it was? I think everyone who followed the online campaign for the movie were led to believe that the events in the movie would take place on 1-18-08....yet when you watch the movie this is apparently not the case. I don't think people were wrong in assuming this either. All the online stuff led up to this date. For example all the characters have Myspace pages and they talk amongst themselves about things happening in their lives. Rob states he got a job offer in Japan on January 4th and on the 5th he tells his brother that he would be leaving in the middle of the month which obviously leads to his going away party being on the 18th. Rob also mentions on the 18th that he can't watch Buffy Season 7 with Hud because he was invited out to see My Fair Lady with a friend who got free tickets....in the movie we see Rob tell Jason that that's where he was before the party. Also on the 18th, a character talks about getting ready for the party. I'm clearly taking this to seriously, but if they are going to go to the trouble of creating this reality for the characters/movie then why don't they jive. I also wrote all this because I wanted to use the word "jive". I feel like such a nerd now that I wrote all that. It was just bugging me though. |

Don't worry, there's way nerdier stuff than that in this forum, lol!

I certainly never noticed a splash in the Coney Island footage and didn't check any of the viral bullshit until after I saw the movie. The sound clip at
the end is just an easy way to keep the marketing hype going for the sequel. It seems to be a trend now to put something at the very end of the credits to make
people pay to see the movie again. I don't have a problem with the people who wanted more out of the story the whole thing was very bare bones and short:
75 minutes for a movie wtf! I didn't necessarily need an explanation of the monster maybe just better written characters or even just 1 character who
wasn't a New york Yuppie douchebag who thinks a 4 day beard looks good.

I thought it was 84 minutes?

I think because they put a sound clip at the end they're including the credits in that runtime. I know after I saw it I checked IMDB and they had it listed
at 90 minutes but now it says 84.

impressive an pointless pretty much sums it all up!Ha. Yeah, I guess that's true. One thing about the "poorly written characters". I've read this numerous places, one being the Peter Traverse(douche bag) review in Rollingstone. They all talk about the characters being vacuous-1 dimensional-magazine ad-yuppies, who are written like caricatures of myspace profiles(or some such garbage). They also talk about how these traits lead you to root for the monster and not the character. Give me a break. We see all of what, 15 minutes of these characters at a party? What do people do and talk about at parties? They drink, mingle, spread gossip, check out girls(or guys), some will get depressed, some will pass out, some will argue....these are not odd things to see on a recording of a party. A party is generally a vacuous-1 dimensional scenario and no matter how interesting somebody may be a 15 minute window into this situation is not going to paint many people in the best light. Adds to the "reality" of the movie if you ask me. |

I don't care if every young New Yorker is exactly like that I think it would have been a much better movie if it focussed on more than just this group of shitheads you could have seamlessly added in other videos with a simple US Army title page like the one at the beginning to interlace them with each one ending in their deaths and still end up with the shitheads in Central Park. Then you could have had a fully fleshed out movie instead of a 75 minute featurette |

Pagong and I arent saying you cant have your own personal opinion about this...we are just saying your opinion is wrong! :P
But seriously...i understand what you are saying about intercut other camera footage from various types of people to get a wider variety of New York types...but you do realize that by increasing the amount of characters in a monster action movie, you will actually have less time to flesh them out a bit and to empathize with them. Then its just about a Monster and you have no one really to follow and car about as an observer. Unless you meant to make the movie over 2 hours so that you can get to know other characters, and know them better, but then that REALLY takes away the momentum needed to sustain a monster action flick. Which is more what this movie was about, not about Rob or Hud. I didnt want a movie about Rob or Hud...im glad they fleshed them out just enough to emphathize with but not too much to take away from the action. And it makes sense to use 20 somethings as the protagonists. One, they are the mostly likely to actually film a disaster. and Two, they are more representative of the demographic audience for this film. I supposed you can make the case that JJ Abrams should have had the camera weidling New Yorkers be a group of retirement home seniors, ala Cocoon...or maybe mid life crises accountants whose office gets smashed...or even a hispanic family from the projects just to be less cliche...but i think they made the right choice for this film. It makes more sense. And for what its worth, I know they wanted to do a sequel (and judging by the insane amlunt of money they made, its probably a no brainer now) with Matt Reves wanting to pick up the story based on other camera angles from other people, as well as picking up more backstory to the monster through those, and showing more what happens after the explosions. So, in that case, you may get your wish for different characters, and better ones for your palate. But for an introduction movie that should be more about the monster and following a group of people who would be mostly likely to film it, i think they did a good job. Granted, not everyone shares my opinion ;) |
