For all we know, Vincent might be the variable. *head explodes*

Kate's childhood friend was also named Tom... the one who she hid the time capsule with. That's what I said when I edited my post. Maybe Tom is there when Jacob goes to see young Kate. |

To defend the theory that Lapidus, Ben, and Sun were not supposed to be there and that's why they didn't flashback, let me add this:
Miles was born/lived on the island. Charlotte lived on the island. There is a pretty good chance that, as a child, Daniel lived on the island. Lapidus has not. If Desmond has changed something, and if Miles, Charlotte, Daniel, and Lapidus were not supposed to be there, perhaps the island has "fingerprints" of the other three and not of Lapidus. Also, were Sun not taken off the island, she would have died from the pregnancy. That may be why she did not flash back. ETA: The crazy thing about this combination is that Ji Yeon would be a varaible, having no reason to exist. I doubt she is THE variable, but still. |

Still thinking Daniel is the variable... |

For THE Variable, I think it will be Desmond again, and we'll get to see first hand what the problem is with having a Variable as your Constant. Like a
giant experiment.
Oh, seventh grade science, of all the reasons people told me I was studying you, "so you can make inane theories about that Sci-Fi TV show you watch in ten years" was probably last on my list. |

But is Desmond even in this episode?? I have seen screen caps of Penny at the hospital with Desmond. (ends up the grocery bag wasn't bullet-proof ;)) but I don't know what episode that is. And if he's in the hospital off island, how does he play into this week's episode on island? |

That's true. I just imagine a child Desmond being the Variable. You know, a consistent lifeline helps your own, so child-Desmond should be sufficient.

phantomkp wrote:It was Naomi's sat phone that signaled the freighter, and allowed Frank to take off, and subsequently, The Faraday Gang to parachute onto the Island in the first place. They didn't get Naomi's signal until Charlie stopped the jammer (the light on her phone went green). The Faraday Gang would still have been on the freighter, if it weren't for Desmond. |

After watching those sneak peaks all I can think is that they are lucky Daniel is there to explain it to Pierre. I can't see Hurley telling him about a
giant frozen donkey wheel being very convincing.
Fox is on Letterman tonight, hopefully he spills a few beans about what's coming up. |

I doubt Letterman will ask any probing Lost questions since he obviously doesn't watch the show. Neither does Leno & I hate that. The only talk show
host that is a fan of the show is Kimmel. But maybe we'll get a new, juicy clip tonight.

Gotta love Faraday saying the O6 returning was not supposed to happen.

Oh, yeah, Jimmy Fallon IS a fan. I forgot about him. He had Michael Emerson on last week & it was great. He even used him in a taped comedy skit the
next night about that Scottish singing sensation. It was hilarious.
Missed you too deliverance. WB. |

Anna in Cardiff, England: Please, any hints for this week's episode of Lost? Can I expect something between Sawyer and
Kate?
All we can say is that after you see the finale, you'll understand why season five of Lost has not handed you Sawyer and Kate on a plate. (huh?) Eliot and Sandra: Are there any spoilers for the two-part season ender for Lost? We just can't wait! Thanks. Sayid's wife Nadia is back in the finale. Yes, technically she's his tragically murdered wife, but still: whee! We'll also be meeting young Kate, young Tom (Kate's friend from Iowa), young Juliet, young Rachel (Juliet's sister) and young Sawyer, and several of those sightings happen because a pivotal figure in the Island mythology wants to check in on our heroes in their youth, à la Richard Alpert's test visit ("Which of these are yours?") to John Locke. Posted By: The ODI That answers which Tom. And I'm sure the pivotal figure is Jacob.. I really don't care about Kate and Sawyer. Enough already. |

Jacob must be the one who gave the toy plane to Kate. That's why it was so important for her to break into the bank vault to get it back.
OR Jacob gets a young Sawyer to give it to her. That would be awesome. |
