The beer brewing neighbor tossed the hops from the beer into the grass on the side of his house. Apparently the two dogs ate the hops, but no one noticed. Over the course of the next several hours, the dogs threw up and started running fevers, panting uncontrollably b/c they were so hot. It turns out that hops are fatal to some breeds of dogs. It induces 'malignant hypothermia', which is essentially reverse hypothermia. The temp spikes uncontrollably, resulting in seizures and usually death.
They were rushed to an emergency pet clinic and given fluids to flush their system. One dog lived and the other died. So fucking sad. He was such a sweet dog. I feel so bad for them. And the vet bill was over $2k for both dogs. This was clearly an accident, and who the hell could have known that would happen? Still, I kinda think neighbor #1 was careless. He should have disposed of all beer making ingredients properly. There are always dogs and cats roaming around, not to mention kids.
We're all pretty friendly, and I'm afraid there will be hard feelings. Such a shitty situation. Would you blame your neighbor if this was your dog? And if you were the one who inadvertantly killed a neighbors dog, would you offer to pay part of the vet bill?
