Please read the entire post before you reply to it. I haven't seen anybody here that seems to just rush to judgement, however I ask just that small favor.
I was directly involved in the incident which was twisted and then reported to not only Corporate W-M, but the Sheriffs Department, as well as the wonderful South Bend Tribune, where the story was finally published. The story has a few true points in it, however the majority is fiction. The stereotypical store security person, I am not. Nor would I approach an "unpaid for merchandise" situation with the 'gusto' of a shoplifter apprehension, when in fact several factors must be taken into account. All of us with the ability to reason will agree, machines make mistakes. When asked for a moment of time to review the video to ascertain if in fact it was a computer issue, immediately came a request for the police to be called. Ok. No problem sir, I'll make that call for you (saves me time later in case they needed called, and I would REALLY love more ears around judging by your demeanor). Why would I attempt to make a bigger issue of it than there was? There were kids there. Why attempt to make a bad day for kids. I have two of them. I know how they can be. The two fathers began to raise their voices, and the kids began to become upset. When the police arrived, the situation was explained, and the police asked multiple times for compliance from the subject who had completed the transaction. Immediate refusal and yelling again. After the police bring fathers to the cars, the children become loud in the store area. The deputy brings the children into the office where the video review is being completed and the kids sit and talk about random things, and play their video game. No comments about their fathers sexuality, personality or anything else was made. The children asked when they could see their fathers, and were told when the deputies were done talking to them they would come in and get them to bring them out to their dads. Once the investigation was completed the children were brought to their fathers. The fathers who had made a huge scene in the store, causing a large commotion while waiting for the police to arrive, were given "banning notices". Again the bashing began, "tattooed freak, white trash, drop out, steroid abuser", again with no response from the employees or the police. The fathers then requested to see the video of the children in the room, stating that they felt the kids were touched inappropriately, and wanted all wal mart employees arrested for child abuse. The police stated that their claims were unsubstantiated and no arrests would happen right there, as requested, but they could file any charges they felt necessary through CPS. This has now been 2 1/2 months of a headache, and it finally gets published.. The comics don't belong being portrayed as news. If these persons were truly treated unfairly, none of this would be in the news. It would be a court room, in which several attempts have been made to date. Believe me, if anything in the story were true, W-M would have fired everyone involved to make sure their hands were clean. It may not be the best job in the world, but it's an honest living to provide for a family. Please, when you read and reply to the thread, seperate the "thugs of w-m" from W-M and it's reputation/corporation actions. Thank you for the momentary use of the forum, to finally get reality added into the mix. Take it as you shall, believe it or don't believe it...
