Forgive me if this is boring to folks, but I thought I'd share a thought exercise I dreamed up this morning which I found interesting (yeah, I have nothing
better to do than think about Idol all day):
It seems that at least once every year or so, there's an "It" singer who in his/her past sang on some TV show. Maybe it was the Mickey Mouse Club, maybe a singing contest like Star Search, or maybe they were just in lots of pageants as a small child where they sang and pranced around. Still, there are all kinds of stars who finally make it after trying for years.
This got me wondering whether in five or ten years, there'll be any singers who were once on an Idol/Idol-like show--American or otherwise-- but who have the chops and style to make it in the American market. Of course, this has already happened a bit... Colbie Caillat and Mercedes on "Glee" tried out for and were rejected from American Idol, and obviously, Boomie did well on the show, but even better a couple of years later. But with Idol alums so often tied up in contracts for years after their stint on the show, it seems really possible to me that someone could try something new after getting Idol out of their system and end up making it big. So...
Are there any Idol alums who you can't believe haven't made it, or who you think could make it if they they keep trying different avenues?
The first person/group that comes to mind for me is Jacob Hoggard and Hedley-- I can't believe they haven't made the jump across the border yet. Whenever I hear the local radio station ask for requests on-air, I'm always tempted to try to call in for them just to see if the local public bites...
Anyway, I'm interested to hear others' opinions...
