^^ Kiki's had some success with this song. Its been on the Urban A/C chart for a while now. And she had a previous song make the Top 40 as well.
I LOVE this because truly, this is what AI is supposed to be all about, picking someone out of obscurity that deserves a chance in the biz, and giving them that chance.

Wow. Jordin's sales are terrible. I think after three or four weeks, she's sold only 75,000 albums or so. Unless she has more hit singles off the new album, I can't see how Jive gives her another album. Daughtry will probably go gold this week.

It's like an inevitable law that the first Idol album is always the biggest seller.

On the sales side this week, Daughtry continues to have the best-selling American Idol release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. At its current pace, Leave This Town could pass the half-million mark in next week's data. Jordin Sparks' Battlefield single has begun to slip, but it remains the most-downloaded Idol-related digital track.

The only thing addition to our list this week is WalMart's American Idol Season 8 EP, which makes its debut with just over 24,000 sales. The EP contains five tracks from this season's four top finalists: Kris Allen and Danny Gokey's Renegade, Allison Iraheta and Adam Lambert's Slow Ride, as well as Adam's Whole Lotta Love, Danny's What Hurts the Most and Kris' Ain't No Sunshine.

Summary:

- Daughtry hits #1 in his genre this week, on Hot A/C. Watch for the Press Release, its coming. His song is also just outside the Top 10 on Pop, and might even make it too. Its also moving up the A/C chart simultaneously with Hot A/C and Pop. (Can anyone say, "the Real Chosen One!?").

- David Cook and Jordin are treading water in the bottom half of the Top 10s in their genres - Hot A/C and Pop respectively. Neither is likely to hit the Top 5, but you never know. Still, they're both doing remarkably well, especially Jordin. But then she is 17! (Jordin will forever be 17 to me). Cook is a bit more of a mystery, because his song has been on the charts, like, freakin' forever! And it just keeps kicking along. I'm sure Cookie is not complaining.

- Jennifer Hudson is next in line, with two songs on the Urban A/C chart, one just outside the Top 10, the other floating around in the Top 25 or 30. Both have pretty much hit their peak, but they keep hanging on and hanging on. RCA loves Jen-Jen.

- Two more Idols make the Top 20 in their genres this week - Phil Stacy (yes, Phil Stacy!) on Christian A/C, and Michael Johns on A/C. Johns song has been on the A/C chart for a while now, and has hit its peak at #20. Not bad though, for the Aussie, getting a song on the American charts. We'll probably see a second one (no telling how it'll do). Phil Stacey has already had a hit on Christian A/C, and he's moving up the chart with this one. Who knew? I thought he'd go country. He even had a song do ok on the country chart for a while, but then he switched over, and he's doing ok. So, go Phil.

- Topping the Top 40 is Kelly Clarkson, with two songs in her new genre, Hot A/C, one going down (and going recurrent in 2 weeks) -- the other rapidly moving up. (All the RCA-coddled Idols have gone Hot A/C for some reason, except Jordin. Daughtry's first singles were released to Rock, but no more, although as we see, he's still doing well crossing over to Pop with his latest song. Kelly's first singles were released to Pop, and she's still crossing over respectably, but her latest songs are dominating at Hot A/C). Both of Kelly's current songs have crossed over to Pop, the first one going recurrent in 2 weeks, when it'll suddenly disappear, and the other in the Top 50, getting ready to take its place in the Top 40 in a week or so. Its a mystery how this latest song will do on Pop, definitely going for Top 20, and maybe Top 10, but #1 unlikely. Still, you never know, it depends how much the label supports it. Kelly's third song from her latest album, the first single, went recurrent on all the charts this week, including A/C. An interesting aside: That song, My Life Would Suck Without You, didn't make Top 10 on A/C, which is unusual for the Idols, because it has the word "suck" in the title -- a number of A/C stations wouldn't play it for that reason. Odd trivia, but true. lol.

Elsewhere in the Top 40s:

- Kris Allen's kara-written tune is about to drop off the A/C Top 30 chart. A/C below Top 30 is less than 100 spins a week, and less than 5 stations playing the song, so its a "shallow" chart - i.e., very few songs played over and over and over and over ... anything below Top 15 is practically obscure in terms of audience impression. I guess we won't see another song from Kris until October?

- Bucky Covington's song has been sitting at the bottom of the Top 40 on Country for a while now, but finally is showing some life, now that Kellie Pickler's song - that she wrote with Taylor Swift - has gone recurrent this week. Country charts have a rapid rise and fall, and they move in an orderly manner once they've hit the Top 20. So here's a toast to Bucky getting into the Top 20 with this song. If it isn't too old by then, he should earn himself another Top 10 hit. Country loves Bucky (even though his songs are atrociously horrible! jmo).

- Lakisha Jones hits the Top 30 in her genre, Urban A/C, this week, and that's pretty dang good for the non-RCA-supported diva. Its her second song in the Top 40 on this chart.

Daughtry's Leave This Town and Jordin Sparks' Battlefield respectively remain the top-selling American Idol album and single this week, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Though none of the current top-selling Idol releases had overall sales increases (Daughtry's first album did get a 4 percent bump), a couple of them did have better weeks on the digital side, with Leave This Town and Kelly Clarkson's All I Ever Wanted seeing double-digit growth. Kelly's Already Gone is the big gainer among Idol's digital tracks, its 20 percent increase meaning it sold nearly 32,000 downloads, bringing it to 183,000 overall.

BHC continues to impress

American Idol has two alumnae among the top 10 records at the Top 40 format this week. Jordin Sparks' Battlefield remains at #7 (its peak so far), while Daughtry's No Surprise moves from #11 last week to #9 this week. Daughtry's record, though, has the more overall spins, because it's also the top Hot AC track again this week. Also, Kelly Clarkson's Already Gone moves into #34 slot at Top 40 this week, up from #41 last week. Already Gone is at #6 on this week's Mediabase-powered Idol airplay chart, swapping places in our Top 10 with Kellie Pickler's Best Days of Your Life (#9), which has begun to see an airplay drop in anticipation of new single Didn't You Know How Much I Loved You (#72-#58), which goes for adds at country radio today.
