David A. takes over lead for Idol downloads
I'm reversing the usual order of posts this week, not because of any dramatic news in the download chart world, but because that's the way the information's flowing this week. So, Idol album sales later this afternoon. David A.'s Crush edges Jordin's One Step at a Time for the lead on the digital songs chart, selling 51,000 (up 3%), according to Nielsen SoundScan. That results in a slight drop on the chart from No. 20 to No. 22; his total downloads are now 405,000. Jordin also sells 51,000 (119 fewer in raw figures), down 10%, moving 16-23 on the chart and totaling 653,000. No Air falls 70-74, selling 19,000, down 6%, for a total of 2.46 million. Carrie's Just a Dream slides 54-57, seling 23,000, down 9%, for a total of 183,000. Last Name is off 98-115, selling 11,000, down 18%, for a total of 566,000. All-American Girl and Before He Cheats, which reappeared on the chart last week, fall back off. David C.'s The Time of My Life is down a bit, 71-73, selling 19,000, a 4% drop, for a total of 881,000. Daughtry's What About Now continues its recent boom, jumping 113-75 on the chart after selling 18,000, a 70% increase, for a total of 338,000. And Kellie's Don't You Know You're Beautiful reappears at No. 196, selling 7,000, up 22%, for a total of 76,000. |

Daughtry deluxe version nearly doubles album's salesThe release of the augmented version of Daughtry's album earned it the expected big boost on the Billboard album chart, as it moved from No. 79 to No. 36, selling 13,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan, up 95% over the previous week and bringing the album's title to 4.22 million. Not bad for an album that never stopped selling even when it was unaugmented. Daughtry moves ahead of Carrie's Carnival Ride, which had a steady week, dropping 41-45 on the chart and selling 10,000, down 4%, for a total of 2.33 million. Jordin, meanwhile, fell 88-101, though sales were relatively even at 6,000 (down 3%). Total is 910,000. A large number of debuts above Jordin's position accounted for part of the steep drop. Idols off the charts follow. Carrie's Some Hearts sold a bit over 5,000, essentially same as last week, for a total of 6.54 million. Bucky's next up with 1,600, up from 1,500, for a total of 365,000. Kellie stayed even at 1,300 for a total of 786,000. We'll see if the release of the new album gives this one a boost in weeks to come. Kelly's Breakaway sold 1,000, down from 1,200, total 6.02 million. My December stayed at 400 for a total of 775,000, and Thankful stayed at 300, total 2.71 million. Josh sold 700, down from 800, for a total of 64,000. Clay's On My Way Here sold 400, down from 500, total 151,000. A Thousand Different Ways stayed at 100, total 528,000. Mandisa stayed at 300, total 97,000. Chris S. stayed at 300, total 11,000 (secular market total). Elliott stayed at 200, total 516,000. Blake stayed at 200, total 303,000. Bo stayed at 200, total 61,000. Phil stayed at 200, total 35,000. Ace stayed at 200, total 8,000. Katharine stayed at 100, total 373,000. Brooke stayed at 100, total reaches a rounded 10,000 (actual figures not quite there). Taylor's Early Works stays at 100, total 3,300. Fantasia sold 100, down from 200, total 517,000. |

WTF Permanent Monday is one of the shittiest songs on her album! Wither Freeze?
Why hasn't One Step At a Time been certified Gold? It's well over 500K (it's around 650K I think).

It's like an Idol coronation song or something...Yup I said it. And I agree with you. The song is shit. Freeze was def the best song to be used as a single. One Step at a Time and Permanent Monday sucked major ass. That's probably why her album sales haven't been increasing. |

A new Idol crashes the Billboard chart -- Kristy Lee's Why Wait starts at No. 49, having sold in the mid-9,000s (rounds off to 10,000), according to Nielsen SoundScan. Putting this achievement by last season's No. 7 finisher into context: > The closest comparison would be Kellie (#6 in Season 5, female, country artist). Her debut started off at No. 9 and sold 79,000 in 2006. (Given the overall drop in sales since then, that would translate to about 60,000 or so in 2008 if the pattern held. That's all theoretical, of course) > Other recent country debuts came from male singers -- Bucky (#8, Season 5), who sold 61,000 (55,000 factoring in a typical drop between 2007 and 2008) but debuted at No. 4; and Phil (#6, Season 6), who sold 13,000 and entered the chart at No. 43 earlier this year. Downloads: Archie thrives amid fall crush
The big Idol news on this week's digital songs chart is another surge for David A.'s Crush, which sold 75% more downloads than it did the previous week, 90,000 in total, to zoom from No. 22 to No. 10, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Total sales are now just shy of the half-million mark at 495,000. A clear hit. Jordin's One Step at a Time is down a step, 23-24, selling 49,000, off 4%, for a total of 703,000. No Air hangs in at 74, selling 17,000, down 6%, for a total of 2.48 million. Carrie's Just a Dream is up slightly, 57-56, with a 2% sales increase to 23,000 for a total of 207,000. Last Name drops 115-148, selling 8,000, down 26%, for a total of 574,000. David C.'s The Time of My Life is up 73-68 on the chart, selling 19,000, about the same as the previous week (down by 76 copies), for a total of 900,000. Daughtry's What About Now continues to climb, 75-70, with a 3% sales boost to 19,000 for a total of 357,000. Jennifer's Spotlight slides a bit, 97-100, selling 13,000, off 2%, for a total of 131,000. Kellie's Do You Know You're Beautiful slips off the chart after a one-week return, selling close to 6,000, down about 19%, for a total of 81,000. It missed the chart by about 800.
