Early on in the series they tried to make him a regular, had him in the opening theme and everything, but they never ended up doing anything with him so he was dropped. I don't remember if they still kept him around as a secondary character or not. And I totally forgot that Dustin Diamond went back to "Saved By The Bell: The New Class" after "College Years" was canceled. I guess that's why he's so bitter. While everybody was moving on to other things (for the most part) he was still playing Screech up until that show ended in 2000. I thought they had some good chemistry, moreso than him and vapid pageant-smile Kelly. IIRC, the nascent Zack/Lisa thing ended in one episode after their kiss because Zack didn't want to hurt Screech whom Lisa couldn't stand the sight of anyway. Whatever.

The reason Zach and Kelly had like 0 chemistry was because IRL they were more like BFFs brother/sister type. I know way too much about this show.
