If he had kept his find to himself, he could have angled to be the one sent over to Galu. And knowing him, he probably would have just walked up to the appropriate tree and grabbed that idol in front of everyone.
But now that Jaison is in the loop, he'll be fighting Russell to be the one selected the next time Foa Foa win the right to send someone over to Galu. I suspect that's the main reason Jaison will be "building an army" to take on Russell. He's trying to kill two birds at once: get rid of Russell's idol and find the second one himself.
