It's a physical season. We have two medical evacuations. Some people push themselves harder than their bodies can take, and our doctors are telling us that infections are spreading more now and these things are really happening. I remember James [Clement] got pulled for having an infection in his finger to which I said, "We are going to lose one of our stars?" And the doctor said, "He's going to lose his hand." They say they are not changing their protocol but the world is changing. In Samoa we had 115 degrees every day and a period where for a week it rained nonstop and they had no water. We had one of the scariest moments ever for me on one evacuation. I was really scared. Sounds like one of the evacuations is quite serious.

The one Penner went out on was a death trap. Some of it may even be that they've grown more paranoid about litigation post-Michael Skupin. But if you remember, Sue sliced her hand with a machete and she wasn't at risk of losing her hand. So is it possible that the inescapable wet climate does place them at a greater risk of infection once they get an abrasion?

These tools like James and Joe in recent seasons think they can handle the cuts and boom, a few weeks later it's infected and they have to leave the game. Spencer cut his hand, or at least he cut something, but had medical look at it and treat it immediately. He didn't get evacuated and that apparently had happened very early. It might be another case of someone thinking they don't need the help, which this season would fit that toolbag John to a tee, and then it gets infected so bad they have to leave.

For one thing medical would never allow that to happen. If you read his exit interview, the protocol is that infections are treated with 4 injections. Each time the injection is with a different antibiotic. If the infection is not arrested after the 4th injection, medical will pull the contestant from the game. I assume the same protocol was followed with James and Jonathan.

There's only so much you can do to prevent it. But, I do agree they shouldn't have challenges that are almost impossible not to have someone get injured on. for a week it rained nonstop and they had no water. That still just makes no sense to me. At all.

A few years ago I had a staph infection that the Doctors believed originated at a water park. I was confused because of all the treatment that those water parks use to "sanitize" the water. Unfortunately, it just makes bugs stronger. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days, follow-up treatment for six months.... all because of a water slide. Then there is the Mersa staph infection. It lasts for days on a dry surface and is highly contagious. A child of one or our employees was diagnosed with it and they actually had a HazMat group come in and sanitize her office. Many of these types of staph infections are already in/on a persons body but they are inactive. Stress, poor nutrition and lack of proper rest contribute to being susceptible to activating the infection... add a cut or scrape (puncture wounds are the worse) and there it goes. It really has nothing to do with global warming.

They had a good shot at doing something they claim to have never done before and the perfect challenge to do it with. There were lots of others doing the same or worse than Ben did. They made a big hooplah out of the warning and then making sure they tossed someone. Probst was probably glad to use Ben as the scapegoat because he does not like him anyway. It will be interesting in future interviews to see the players opinions on him being kicked out as opposed to some others being allowed to slide by.

Even after Jeff's elaborate warning, there's a shot of Yasmin clearly grabbing either Ashley or Natalie via a choke hold, something Probst had specifically warned against, and Yasmin didn't get called on it: Instead Jeff landed like a ton of bricks on Ben for what was a comparatively harmless trip, something Jeff didn't mention in his warning. He kicked him in the calf, near the back of the knee. He basically clipped him. That's a great way to tear the cartilage in the knee.
