Uu 3 beaches. 3 tribes? lol. Though I'm hoping so, it's probably not. One of the beach is probably going to be use for challenge beach.

3 beaches. 3 tribes? lol. Though I'm hoping so, it's probably not. One of the beach is probably going to be use for challenge beach. How much area do they need for a camp site and for the challenge area? Does that narrow it down any? I guess they could start with three tribes, merge/swap fairly early like Cook Islands, and then use the spare beach for a challenge site... |

So this is where filming is on a map. The red dots are SEG locations being used. |

Once Aggie's was identified by tourist sites as the production HQ, it seemed likely that production would be centered on Western Upolu or
even perhaps Eastern Savai'i. As noted by others, the southern coast of Upolu is considerably less developed than the northern coast, so it seemed a
likely candidate, both in terms of desired setting and relatively simple logistics due to relative proximity to Aggie's.
Thanks to TDT, Dani (at Skills) and OFG, we have confirmation on the southwestern side of Upolu as the most likely area for filming. TDT posted an article which identified one of the beaches as the one from Return to Paradise. Dani and OFG independently found a report of the following beaches being closed for the duration of production: Lefaga (Return to Paradise), Matareva and Aganoa (purportedly black sand, but really more light charcoal)
There's an article in the
Samoa Observer referencing an undeveloped stretch of land on Fagaiofu Bay in the southern coast of Upolu. The land was recently purchased for a
resort development, to be named Survivor Samoa Beach Resort once it is completed. As it is part of the land which is to be used for the show, construction on
the new resort will be held off until after the show has finished filming. The listing for the property on Fagaiofu Bay at Falelatai (southwestern Upolu, further
west than Lefaga and Matareva) includes pictures of the area.
Historically, challenges have happened in several locations, though certainly repeat locations are quite usual, so any of these locations could serve for challneges. The one issue in checking these locations was the number of permanent structures, as well as the (possibly removable) fale, on some of these beaches. These can be seen on any number of videos on YouTube. It would be easy enough to isolate parts of the area for challenges, but it works less well for tribal beaches, where players would not only have room to roam on land, but presumably would also be able to canoe away from the beach. Of all these beaches, the Fagaiofu location seems the most isolated, so more likely to help preserve the illusion of being abandoned in the middle of nowhere.
(the markers are placed for general reference, but keep in mind that named beaches can reference a large stretch of land. Aganoa is slightly East on the
southern coast.)
Going through the preview (video is posted in the Logo thread), it is possible to identify some of the locations. Although it is not certain
by any means that any of them will be used during production (after all, the intro for Tocantins featured IguaƧu Falls which are nowhere near the state of
Tocantins), it is possible that some of them will resurface during the game.
BOULDERS on Upolu Looks like a great surfing spot, but no distinguishing marks. Google research indictes these are some of the best surfing sites on Samoa: Upolu: Boulders - Nu'usafe'e Island Savaii: Aganoa - Satuiatua - Fagamalo The best candidate, comparing other photographs for color of water and size of wave, appears to be Boulders. Then again, it's water. Blue water. TAGA Blowholes on Savai'i These three sequences are featured in quick succession, so likely all from the same area. The last one is indeed the Taga Blowholes. Per samoasharkk, land has been leased to production. Unidentified Beach/Cove Doesn't seem to match any of the known beaches, including Fagaiofu Bay, though it is possible that the existing pictures of Fagaiofu are dated. Could be a throwaway shot or a tribal beach. TBD. SOPOAGA FALLS on Upolu There are many, many waterfalls on both islands. There's even a sliding waterfall that looks tremendous fun, so it's impossible to say which may end up being used on the show. The one featured here is Sopoaga Falls on Upolu. Unidentified location Beautiful unspoiled land. Pretty shot, they might fly over it to get to a reward location. Anyone want to take a crack at comparing mountain profiles? LALOMANU BEACH Distinctive island in the background. Fairly developed, probably will not be used. |

Yeah, the area around Fagaiofu (lol) Bay seemed like the most likely to be "deserted" enough for filming to me. And the previews for odd seasons are usually just filled with stock footage from other tourism productions. |

VG, that's a great find. Fagaiofu not only looks like the deserted spot, but the owners come out and say it is one of ten locations that have been
selected.
A bay without exisiting tourist infrastructure is perfect. Meanwhile, Aganoa has been reopened. Maybe it was too far east from the main cluster. It has a great look so I can see why it appealed to them for challenges. Matareva is shallow and protected, possible a good beach for building challenge sets that don't require deep water swimming. |

VG, I'm glad you credited Survivor Skills. I don't read that board and wasn't aware she had posted the same information, but had I been I would
have credited her for sure.
I haven't been actively looking for info; I just ran across this posting yesterday while surfing the web. CSC, actually SEG does not rely on stock footage. At least with the Cooks, they sent a crew down during the scouting period, to film the preview. The crew even set some underwater traps to secure themselves eels and other interesting sealife. But I agree that they don't necessarily shoot the locations where we'll see camps. |

I wouldn't mind having 3 tribes again and one tribe dissolves like ASS.

Best when tribes start with even numbers IMO - that way super majority (5-3) needed instead of simply 5-4 alliance to start which can so easily become
mini-Pagonging. So I vote 3 tribes of 6 if they're going to do 18 contestants. I'm sure my vote matters to SEG.
